  • Think you're cold?

I know 10 below zero is cold, but I guess I don't feel so sorry for myself after the conversation I just had with an 80 year old guy who was a Korean War veteran..
He was just telling me of the winter he fought in Korea 61 years ago in the Korean War...
    - it was 30 below zero and they lived & slept outside in a trench..
I'm suddenly thinking maybe we don't have that much to complain about...

I can't even imagine how bad that was. I can tell you that the place I went to college, Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, annually is one of the coldest spots in the nation. How cold you may ask? My very first day in town the temperature was -58. There were many times it got down into the minus 40's during the winter. Gunnison is about 200 miles SW of Denver and at 7,700 feet and being surrounded by 12 to 13,000 foot peaks it would get cold in a hurry.

Gunnison is beautiful and pleasant in the summer. I did some fishing in the reservoir and camped there. I've never been there in the winter, and don't think I want to.

From April to October the weather was great. Summer time the temperatures hardly got past 75 and 95% of the time it was blue sky and sunshine. Even at midnight it was still shirt sleeve and short weather. As close to perfect as you could get.

Know what you mean about cold! It was low 60's here in AZ with a 55F wind chill. It's been brutal. Had to wear a tee shirt with my thong..

Glad I'm in the East Valley and didn't have to see that.
