Listening to the elite experts & geniuses who host radio sports talk shows in Chicago, they believe this is a terrible decision by the Bears. But on the other hand, they have no suggestions for an alternative other than to draft a quarterback and develop him, as if that can be done overnight.
IMO, this is good for the Bears, considering the absence of any reasonable alternatives. The problem with this year's Bears was not Jay Cutler nor the offense. For the first time in Jay's career with the Bears, he had a decent offensive line and a good group of receivers (including TE), and he responded by putting up tremendous numbers, better than any quarterback in Bears history.
Cliff Stein strikes again! What a deal for the Bears with Cutler. Reports are he gets $22 mil this year, 19 next year and 17 the following year. All guaranteed money but NO signing bonus. Years 4-7 are club options and essentially pay as you go, so if they were to cut him, there would be no salary cap carry over at all. Love the Slauson, Jennings and Gould signings, now they can still use the Franchise Tag if they want to keep someone (Tillman?). I would suspect several Bears end up in Tampa next year and I would be calling them to see if they would like an aging defensive end.

Would like to send them a our D' head coach as well!
The Bears re-sign cornerback Kelvin Hayden, who unfortunately missed all of last year with a torn hamstring muscle. The Bears could have used him last year. Hopefully he'll be recovered enough to contribute next year.
The Bears are also reportedly close to signing Martellus Bennett's brother, Michael who plays defensive end / tackle for Seattle. This would be a good pickup if they can get him for 3 years....not 5. He's approaching 30 years old and you don't want another Julius Peppers situation on your hands.

Bennett signs 5 yr deal to stay in Seattle for less than the Bears offered!
