New Orleans Hornets will be changing their team name to the Pelicans!
Likely, the new Orleans Hornets' ownership is being driven by a need to sell new merchandise, and make money, since they have to be losing money with their franchise. The Hornets are 29th out of 30 teams in home attendance and they only average 13,497 per game.
I suspect they won't last in New Orleans for long and after moving again (they moved from Charlotte in 2002) they'll surely dump this Pelican idea.

Hey I like the name. The mascot can be Pesky Pelican Pete
Pelicans are really neat birds, especially when you see them skimming over the ocean in formation. They look prehistoric. Too bad they can't get their Jazz name back!"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

Google the state flag of Louisiana, The Pelican is badass. On the flag you will see a pelican tearing a piece of its own skin during hard times to feed its young. (Which they do).ONCE A BRAVE... ALWAYS A BRAVE
Will give legal advice for beer

Judging from Twitter responses, the majority of fans don't like the change, and the players aren't excited about it.

The evolution is complete....
now that the New Orleans club has discarded the team nickname "Hornets" and become "Pelicans"...
the Bobcats have now laid claim to Hornets and have changed their name...
