Bears hire Marc Trestman

I think this is a great hire, this guy has a great rep in the NFL and an impressive resume.
Also, it's being reported that the Bears have hired Saints OL Coach (and interim HC) Aaron Kromer as offensive coordinator/OL coach... Which also sounds like a really good hire, the Saints protect Brees very well and they do it with mostly mid-low draft picks:
LT - Bushrod, 4th round
LG - Grubbs, 1st round
C - de la Puente, undrafted
RG - Evans, 4th round
RT - Strief, 7th round

With 7 of the 8 coaching vacancies filled-
Andy Reid to the KC Chiefs
Doug Marrone to the Buffalo Bills
Mike McCoy to the San Diego Chargers
Rob Chudzinski to the Cleveland Browns
Marc Trestman to the Chicago Bears
Chip Kelly to the Philadelphia Eagles
Gus Bradley to the Jacksonville Jaguars
That leaves just 1 NFL Head Coaching vacancy left- the Arizona Cardinals. They are interviewing Darell Bevell today, with a chance he may get the job, though reportedly Ray Horton, Todd Haley, Jay Gruden, and Bruce Arians are also in the mix.
But notice that there is not a single minority on the list. So much for the "Rooney Rule". It has been a major failure. I wonder why we haven't hear much about the lack of minorities this time around like we frequently do?
A decade ago, Johnnie Cochran and Cyrus Mehri rattled the litigation sword regarding the stunning absence of minority head coaches in the NFL.
A study by University of Iowa researchers finds little evidence of discrimination in the lack of black NFL head coaches, but questions the effectiveness of the league's so-called Rooney Rule.
It goes even farther than just head coaches- here is a long list of all the candidates reportedly interviewed for various coaching and management vacancies in the NFL since the season ended, and it is hard to find many minorities on the list.
When "Black Monday" hit the National Football League on Dec. 31, heads rolled across the league, leaving vacancies on coaching staffs and front offices from coast to coast...
Lovie Smith, who was interviewed by a couple teams, has decided to sit out and not coach next year. He will ake over $5 million from the Bears for the next year anyway.

My suspicion is that Trestman is probably OK with him leaving quietly, and that way he can get his own choice for DC. Maybe they reached some kind of agreement where the Bears will even pay him since he is technically under contract. If he left entirely on his own, he would void his contract. I guess we'll see if he lands somewhere else.

A couple more Bears hires-
Matt Cavanaugh as quarterbacks coach- 14 year NFL quarterback, and recently a coach with the NY Jets- he won 2 super Bowls as a player, and one as a coach with the Ravens
Skip Peete as running backs coach -brother of former NFL Quarterback Rodney Peete, and former running backs coach for the Oakland Raiders for 9 years, and for the Dallas Cowboys for the last 6 years..

He was the DC at Cleveland and then Jacksonville. Interestingly enough he ran the 3-4 at Cleveland and the 4-3 at Jacksonville.

FTR, I think it's a great choice. But the real proof is in the results, and we won't know that for years. Every time a team makes a coaching change, there is bound to be significant fallout. But unlike with a college team where there can be significant turnover of players that usually leads to downturns that can take years to recover from, in the pros, the team still has most of the players under contract, and the choice of free agents.
