Last night was just another example of why kids are fleeing the Manual and Central programs to enroll at limestone. I wouldn't let any of my kids go to any 150 school and I graduated from one a long time ago.
richwoods is still ok IMO
when is the next game between these 2 (manual and central?)
That news blurb from the Richwoods game tho was in some ways UNPRECEDENTED...
they weren't saying that security was bad in the building, or that there could be fights or incidents at the game --
Sure - those things could happen but that's apparently not the warning that led to the game being cancelled.
They were saying that the very safety of the Richwoods parents or fans would be in jeopardy even if they are driving to the game or through the neighborhood.
With that kind of warning that people shouldn't even drive their cars through the very neighborhood the school sits in...
then what they are saying is that thugs and gangsters in the region & neighborhood would immediately identify the Richwoods people
as outsiders and possibly as "intruders" into their territory and possibly attack them ...and that the school didn't want any responsibility to protect the Richwoods people.
BUT how did that situation just change in the past few days?? If it's that dangerous - could they have NOT known it weeks or even months in advance and not even wasted time scheduling this game or picked a noon-time game or better location?
sorry Chico - I did kinda skip from the violence at the Manual-Central game to this story about the Richwoods game...I thought it had been posted..(but then we skipped from the hair issue to the incident at the game
Tornado posted the link but here are some of the details. The Richwoods @ Chicago Vocational game scheduled for 1:30 Saturday was cancelled less than 24 hours before they (Richwoods) was scheduled to get on the bus. Chicago Vocational had sent an email to District 150 and athletic supervisor Bobby Darling stating that fans and parents would not be allowed in the game due to "safety reasons."
Darling and others felt that if fans and parents safety was at risk then they were not going to send players either. Made no sense to as nobody was comfortable playing the game. It makes people wonder what happened recently to make Chicago officials nervous enough to contact 150 officials. A little history......Richwoods beat a touted Vocational team 38-34 last year also at Chicago Vocational.
I worked 4 of them but times were different back then. Those were great games to work in the late 80's early 90's. I talked to one of the guys that worked it and he said he wasn't afraid but they did go to the locker room until the decision was made to continue.
