  • Roger Clemens

People are free to believe what they want...but consider this...

-The guy has never tested positive
-he has always insisted he did not cheat
-no credible witness has ever said otherwise
-he just won the trial to prove he lied and did use drugs

despite all this - the guy keeps getting hammered in the press....
Even if you do believe Clemens did drugs - then postulate this...what if he's completely innocent - then wouldn't it fit the situation that exists perfectly??
If he's doing drugs then why can nobody prove it?

Anyway -- did you see that he pitched yesterday at age 50 - in the independent minors/Sugarland Skeeters....he's hardly thrown a ball in five years yet he went out onto the mound -
    and he impressed....
Clemens threw 3 1/3 innings, allowed only ONE hit (a 2-out single), no walks, two K's, in 37 pitches....hitting as high as 88 mph on fastballs.
Almost 8000 came to the minor league game to watch him pitch, including a few major league scouts and personnel, some of whom said they believed Clemens could still pitch in the majors.

BTW -- I hope after the people in Congress have given up their witch hunting endeavor against baseball that they just spend their time solving the real issues at hand in the US instead of holding baseball hearings and indicting people.

My take is slightly different. What Clemens did was impressive for an overweight 50 year old, but keep in mind that it was not against an MLB team, and not even a legitimate minor league team with MLB affiliation or real pro prospects. It was against an independent team called the Bridgeport Bluefish. A team with a losing record, and a roster made up of mostly 30-something washed-up wannabees. His fastball topped out around 87-88 mph, which again is nice for a 50 year old, but not anywhere close to enough for MLB.

ESPN reported that there were "a number of MLB scouts present".
I did a search to try to find which MLB teams would waste time and money scouting this circus. The only teams mentioned in any article are the Houston Astros and the Kansas City Royals.

I think that says it all. Houston is, by far, the worst team in MLB and near the bottom in attendance. And KC isn't far behind. The only reason these teams could possibly be interested in Clemens is as a stunt to sell tickets. MLB doesn't need these kinds of stunts.

Loved the video I saw on TV the other day of Clemens playing geezer softball with the boys....

If this minor league gig doesn't work out for Roger, will definitely try to recruit him for our 'Over 50' slow pitch Softball Team here in Az....

Clemens & Armstrong, both never tested positive for PED's while competing.

Clemens was acquitted, Armstrong should be as well.

steroid witch hunt so that those in charge can say they were doing something...
some of the manufacturers & distributors have been caught -- go hard after them - instead - note that the Balco guys (the guy they caught red handed making designer steroids to sell to Big Leaguers and all his cohorts, enablers, and liars..) - all got caught and their total jail time for the entire lot of them was a measley 3 months - most getting off with nothing.

Does this kind of insanity register to those idio*ts in Congress - the real people responsible get nothing even when they're caught and try like heck to lie their way out of it but the athletes get pursued in a never-ending witch hunt...

So do you guys think that Clemens gets into the Hall of Fame? My opinion is Clemens does not make the HOF while alive.

Disagree. Especially if he makes any semblance of a comeback now. He was convicted of nothing and probably has 25-50 years left to live... He'll get in.

                Neither was Shoeless Joe Jackson.

The comeback if it happens, probably sets the clock back a few years to give the HOF voters a chance to decide about players in the steroid era.

I don't think he gets in. It looks like the writers are going to keep everyone with strong associations with steroids out.

The more that I have heard and read about drug testing the less I believe in it. The tests sound pretty easy to beat, and it makes me more skeptical of a lot of athletes. It can be nearly impossible to catch straight blood doping, and EPO can only be detected recently after injection. The legal testosterone range is up to 4x the normal level. The wiki article is a good start on the subject of doping. The cheaters are always going to be ahead of the test as well.

BTW Clemens and Armstrong both definitely used banned performance enhancing drugs. I have no doubt about it. Different agencies have spent far too much time and money going after them, and I don't think the gov't should really have gotten involved. I don't care one bit about baseball players using steroids, but it's too bad to see Armstrong go down.

I'm more bent on T's side of this issue. I really do not care right now if they used, especially Armstrong. We are talking how many years ago? What I can't stand is all these groups saying they are seeking justice and what they are really seeking is notoriety. The money spent on these witch hunts could be better spent monitoring today's players. Also USADA is not a US government agency but some how 1/2 of their funding comes from tax payers.

Didn't his best friend testify under oath he used steroids? Then all of the sudden changes his story? The whole steroid thing is dumb anyway because they ALL did it back then. Baseball was on the rocks after the strike and guess what put that sport back on the map- the McGwire and Sosa obscene home run chase. Seems like a conflict of interest here.

I strongly believe he cheated. Much of his career was played when no testing was allowed. Then later on only certain testing was being done on predetermined dates or in the off season. I still am not sure if they are testing for HGH at all and if it is being done during the season. Plus way to many ways to beat the test or mask the results.

I have 100% more respect for Andy Pettit and the type of person he is/was. I would call him a credible person. He was respected much more inside baseball as a person than Clemens ever was. He said Clemens was guilty but later said he misspoke? He came out and admitted what he did right away. He said that everything personal trainer Brian McNamee said about him was true and he apologized very quickly. Remember Pettit and Clemens were best friends, trained, and worked out together with McNamee. Many Yankees over the years have been implicated or admitted to using PED's like Gary Sheffield, A-Rod, Pettitte, Clemons, Giambi, Jose Canseco, Chuck knoblauch, David Justice, and more. How many had ties to McNamee?

Even Clemens wife isn't natural. McNamee injected her with HGH. Plus if I remember right she had some other "touchups" done before her Sports Illustrated shoot. Can't remember if it was botox or some kind of surgery.

Debbie Clemens testified Friday that her husband was not present when she received a shot of human growth hormone from Roger Clemens' strength coach -- testimony that contradicts the star pitcher's chief accuser in the perjury trial.

Sorry but I think Clemens has been a cheater his whole life. On the baseball field and off. Just ask Mindy McCready.

No way in the world do I think he belongs in the HOF.

No question about it. History has shown us that the designer drugs are usually way ahead of the science of detection. As detection catches up, the labs producing the illegal drugs have already moved on to another synthetic iteration. So sad for those of us who want a clean game.
