  • Multiple Valley teams get into the NCAA Baseball National Championship Tourney

Creighton gets the automatic bid having won the Valley Tourney as the 8th seed - one slot lower than Bradley was.

But Indiana State and Missouri State both get at-large bids, and...Dallas Baptist - who played an entire MVC schedule this season but who were NOT allowed into the Valley because a few Valley members were either jealous or didn't think they'd be good enough -
Dallas Baptist had arguably a better season than any Valley team and they get in as a higher seed than any of the Valley teams.

FYI, Dallas Baptist accepted an affiliate membership for the WAC last year for baseball, so they withdrew from their plans to join the MVC in the same capacity. So they played the MVC schedule without being part of the conference and dealing with entry AND exit fees within one year.

Apparently I'm wrong, I now heard elsewhere MVC did vote against their membership prior to anything with the WAC happening.

The WAC is a decent baseball conference but the Valley would have definitely been preferable - I think they'd have preferred to be in the Valley and if they were - we'd have had four teams in the NCAA Tourney!

Of course, if DBU was in The Valley, Creighton would not have qualified for the 8-team MVC Tournament and, thus, would not have won the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.

are we sure - or would the MVC have drawn up a bye for the top seed and had a play-in game?

The tourney already has been expanded from six teams to the full 8-team membership and required an extra day with an extra game each of the first three days (four games per day) to make it happen. I don't think the league would have immediately gone the extra step of adding more teams and more games, but that is just a guess. I am sure there is a format that could include nine teams.

but if we carry the "what if" all the way out to the extreme -- then had Creighton been left out of an 8-team tourney, Bradley would have been slotted into the #8 seed - thus since all those teams playing the #8 seed, let them off the hook - it would have been BU getting the auto-bid!

All 3 MVC teams in the NCAA baseball tournament were eliminated this past weekend.
The #3 seed Indiana State Sycamores were eliminated with a 1-0 loss Saturday to #4 seed Austin Peay in the Eugene, Oregon Regional. They finish their season 41-19.

The #3 seed Missouri State Bears lost Sunday 10-7 to #4 seed Stony Brook, who had knocked off the #1 seeded Miami Hurricanes, to be eliminated at the Coral Gables, Florida Regional. They end their season 40-22.

And #7 seed Creighton beat #2 seed New Mexico earlier Sunday 7-2 at the Los Angeles Regional to advance to the final late Sunday against #1 seeded UCLA.

However, they lost to UCLA, the #2 ranked team in the country, 13-5 to be eliminated. They finished their season 28-30.

Apparently the MVC is planning now to add Dallas Baptist as a MVC member for baseball. It will still require final approval of the member schools' presidents-

The addition of Dallas Baptist to the MVC for baseball is official. It begins in 2014, and runs for 6 years-

Don't look for the MVC to consider Dallas Baptist for expansion in basketball. They are in Division II for NCAA basketball.

When the AD's voted on this the vote was 7-1 for, with UNI and Drake abstaining.

When the President's voted on this, the vote was once again 7-1 for, with UNI and Drake abstaining.

Anyone want to guess who was against this move? Anyone know why?
