BU baseball upsets #2 seed Missouri State to stay alive in MVC tournament

Bradley baseball scored two 9th inning runs to pull off the 5-3 upset of #2 seeded and host school Missouri State last night in the MVC tournament.-

#7 seed Bradley will play #6 seed SIU in the 2nd round at 7:30 PM tonight (Wed. 5/23). SIU upset of #3 Wichita State. #1 seeded Indiana State also lost yesterday.

One good thing, for the 2nd night in a row, centerfielder Max Murphy made the ESPN Sports Center Top 10 Plays. His over-the-shoulder running catch was #6 on last night's Top 10, one night after his diving catch was #9 on Tuesday's Top 10.

Aren't we losing some very good players as well? Next year could be rough again.

We do graduate several pitchers, including Joe Bircher, and third baseman Rob Elliott, but the bulk of the field players should be back. Hopefully a trio of injured pitchers -- John Nasshan, Andy Johnson and Camron Roegner -- come back healthy to anchor the pitching staff. We are on an upward trend and I think it will continue next season.

Rick Heller, who was a finalist for the Bradley head baseball coaching vacancy 5 years ago but was passed over, went to Indiana State and revived their program and had great success. He was just hired to be the new head coach at Iowa.
