  • NFL - Super Bowl Production Is Turning Into A Joke

Getting harder and harder to take the Super Bowl seriously....

The absurd half time shows running longer than the game...

More tv ads shown than plays run...

The need for profanity, gang banger groups, washed up pop stars who have no remaining talent/relevancy resorting to Vegas style Wayne Newton type shows...

Trotting out ancient NFL players to carry the Super Bowl trophy around post game for players to 'worship' reminded me of the scene in the Ten Commandments when they paraded around the golden calf to worship...

Raymond Berry either has Alzheimers disease, or, desperately needed money to do this hokey stunt.

Hoping to put football back into the NFL and the Super Bowl...

I think the WHOLE OBJECT is to try to do something....anything that is so outrageous that hasn't been done before -- anything that is so weird and funky, even offensive - so that the performer will have a lasting legacy -- after all for decades to come Janet Jackson will be synonymous with Superbowl halftime!!!

Here are this year's candidates for shallow-brained attempts to upstage Janet Jackson's mammary-memory...

-some performer who calls himself/herself (you never know nowadays) "MIA" openly gestured to the cameras and crowd with the middle finger extended as she said...
    "I don't give a (expletive)"
"The screen briefly went blurred after M.I.A.'s gesture in what seemed like
a late attempt to cut out the camera shot. The NFL, which produces the show,
    had no immediate comment
    ."

INDEED the whole thing worked to perfection as more people now know who "MIA" is over the past 12 hours than her entire freaking career before that.....watch for more of this in future halftime shows....they will be forced to go to a delay loop in broadcasting it!

-"Shelton and Lambert did a twangy duet on "America the Beautiful"....that was panned by most who braved country music lovers' anger by being honest...saying it was horrible...

-Some guys that were later identified as..."Dance rockers LMFAO and Cee Lo" performed (if that's what you call it) by churning out unintelligible grunts and sounds and looked more like rejects from a costume party or a weight watcher's commercial...

-Madonna appeared to lip sync thru several forgettable songs and half-hearted dance routines while acrobats did the more catchy dancing - and yet nothing done was much beyond a scene from some old Marylyn Monroe movie...

all in all I have yet to read a single review that graded this year's halftime show as any more than mediocre and calling it forgettable..

BTW -- just did a google search to see what has previously been the response to someone in any athletic competition giving the finger to viewers or fans...

In every case - the player (or coach) was reprimanded severely and in almost every case they were suspended..some as long as 8 games.
BUT -- oddly when a performer does it we call it artistic expression - Lady Gaga knows how to do this, too - LINK - I guess it's a highly evolved trait!!

While not excusing the gesture, thats probably not true. MIA is pretty popular, shes just never been much of a US Artist till 'Paper Planes' blew up a couple years ago and was sampled by like 50% of the hip hop community in one way or another. And for most people, if you dislike MIA it shouldn't be because a fairly trivial middle finger during a half time show, but mayhaps more appropriately, her Tamil Tigre apologist tendencies.

That's T's point. She wasn't much of a US Artist, but now most of us, sad to say, have heard of her. Just scum bag entertainment.

Ya gotta hand it to the NFL tho, they sure know how to market their product.

They don't need trash to have their product marketed. Doubt if most real NFL fans even watch the halftime farce anyway. Too busy reloading their plates and glasses.

Can't disagree with that, but there are alot of non-NFL fans(?) that watch the super Bowl.
