  • Pujols to Anaheim Angels for 10 years/$250 million

Pujols agrees to 10 year, $250 million and will sign with the Angels.

The Angels are also pursuing top free agent pitcher C.J. Wilson and are close to signing him. They would then be investing almost $350 million into 2 players who are already in their 30's.

I had a hunch Albert might end up in the American League where his career could be longer with the DH, and his value may be higher since he was asking for a 10 year deal, and will be 32 years old soon (though some people believe he could be older).
Does it mean Prince Fielder is more likely to end up in the AL, too? If so, it opens up the NL Central for a team like the Cubs.

Fielder SHOULD play in the AL, his defense is horrific. But who knows, since Pujols burned the Cardinals and Marlins, they may jump into the race with the Cardinals.

As a Cardinal fan, I'm insanely bitter that he left for purely fiscal reasons, but he gave me a decade of great memories, so all the luck to him.

Still, sit on it, Albert Pujols.

The New York Post's Joel Sherman reports that C.J. Wilson has agreed to a deal with the Angels.

SI.com's Jon Heyman adds that the deal is for $75 million over five years.

One of the best pitchers on the market and Pujols not a bad haul for the Angels.

Great job by Albert getting his $$$$

I still think this is a horrible deal for the Angels, DH or not

Very much agree.. Even though Cardinals fans don't like the news, the team and organization is better off not signing Pujols to the huge contract.

I agree with both of these statements. I got a sick feeling when I heard the news.......hurt/disappointed, but not crushed!

Interesting to note that per twitter reports, the Marlins were the high bidders for both Pujols and Wilson.

With $191MM committed to Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, and Heath Bell, Marlins fans can't complain about their offseason so far. …

It is called buying your championship , this is why baseball needs a salary cap, for me I am happy he went to the American league instead of Miami as we play the Marlins 18 games a season.

I completely agree! This is exactly why I refuse to hate the Yankees simply because they spend so much money. That's an MLB problem and I don't blame the Yankees for playing within the rules of Major League Baseball!

However, I don't believe the Angels have bought a championship yet!

The Yankees and Red Sox have done it several times, and the Marlins also spent their way to their first championship in 1997.

Not yet but that is what they are trying to do and I kind of like their chances.
