I am not sure why the 8 shows up as a smiley face, but my choice would be-

1)Sumlin and keep the current DC
2)Leach - take the chance, it would be entertaining.
    3) Pipe dream- Gruden ( I think he would be a great college coach)

What's an Illini? Is that where they play the State Title Games???
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

Gruden is a 100% pipe dream, pretty sure he wants to become the next John Madden. He's passed at college jobs 4x's as good as UofI.

Leach would be awesome (I may actually go see a UofI game then.) He got fired in a situation that, the more it got some actually reporting done on it, seemed to be very sketchy at best. He's a real offensive genius and he would be the kind of jolt UofI has been missing ever since I've been alive.

Back off Leach, he's coming to Tulane , but no seriously, Tulane turned him down, I think U of I can do better.

Notre Dame was pursuing Gruden just before they started leaning towards Kelly. He turned NOTRE DAME down as well. That's one of the top coaching gigs in the country. I Don't think Gruden will give it up for the Illini hahaha.

I voted for Gruden hoping this gets him away from Monday Night Football!

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

                Zook Fired

Ron Zook will not return for an eighth season as Illinois head coach.

Zook finishes his career at Illinois with a 34-50 record. He led Illinois to a Rose Bowl appearance in 2007 and the Texas Bowl in 2010.

He was honored as Big Ten coach of the year in 2007.

Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas will conduct a nationwide search for the next head coach. I am told that Thomas has already inquired to others about Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables, although no contact has been made with Venables at this point.

Expect Pittsburgh Steelers running backs coach Kirby Wilson to be involved in the coaching search. Wilson (49) graduated from Illinois. He is in his fifth season on the Steelers' coaching staff.

Wilson is interested in the job.

Speaking of Bowls, which one do you think the Illini will play in, IF they even accept an invitation to one, which I'm not really sure they will now that Zook is gone.

The following is the list of some of the actual lower tier Bowl games, some that the Illini could theoretically play in. You couldn't make up goofier names than these!:

                  Gildan New Mexico
                  MWC vs. Pac-12

                  Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
                  MAC vs. WAC

                  R+L Carriers New Orleans
                  C-USA vs. Louisiana-Lafayette

                  Beef 'O' Brady's St. Petersburg
                  Big East vs. C-USA

                  S.D. County Credit Union Poinsettia
                  MWC vs. Louisiana Tech

                  MAACO Las Vegas
                  MWC vs. Pac-12

                  Sheraton Hawaii
                  C-USA vs. WAC

                  AdvoCare V100 Independence
                  ACC vs. MWC

                  Little Caesars
                  Big Ten vs. MAC

                  Belk ?????????????
                  ACC vs. Big East

Military Bowl Presented By Northrop Grumman
                  ACC vs. Navy

                  Bridgepoint Education Holiday
                  Big 12 vs. Pac-12

There's others, but these are the most ridiculous ones on the list. Just what the heck is Belk????? And the "Idaho Potato" Bowl?!

All I can say is thank goodness NCAA basketball doesn't participate in a playoff format like this!

Don't know if he would ever leave Boise State, but Peterson would be a pretty good choice for Illinois.

Yes, I think he will stay west. Maybe UCLA or even AZ.

                      But he'd be good.
