Can the Bears say ruined season? What the heck? I was getting all geared up for victory Monday and everything!

Here is the latest- Cutler confirmed to have a fracture of his right thumb. He'll have surgery and be out the remaining 6 games of the regular season. The Bears hope he will be able to return for the playoffs if the Bears can secure a playoff spot.
Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a fractured thumb on his throwing hand during Sunday's 31-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers and will have surgery.
Injured quarterback Jay Cutler will be back before the end of the regular season, and until then the Bears will rally behind backup Caleb Hanie, according to coach Lovie Smith. Cutler is expected to ...
There has been some speculation the Bears might consider bringing in a veteran quarterback who would be familiar with offensive coordinator Mike Martz's system, and the names of Mark Bulger, Kurt Warner, and even Brett Favre have been mentioned. But the Bears insist they have no intention of adding to their roster, and will be fine with backup quarterback Caleb Hanie.

Most of what I have read about Hanie makes it sound like no one knows what to expect from him. IDK how much more work Forte can be given.I can do all things through pasta, which strengthens me.

Broncos waive Kyle Orton....should the Bears put in a claim for him?

There are reports that the Bears will put in a claim for Orton.
However there are also reports that other teams that have higher priority in the waiver process may also claim him. His big contract may keep teams from claiming him. Orton has said he would like to return and play in Chicago.

Orton might be a nice option.
Flying Spaghetti Monster-- Most of what I've read or heard about Hanie says he's just not talented enough to be an NFL QB. Admittedly that's mostly coming from media types, so who knows, though Martz was not a fan this offseason.
Given the Bears are in the playoff hunt, I think it'd be foolish to throw the dice, especially with some of the players available.

I always liked Orton. I'm just not sure that Chi will be able to get him. HOU seems like the obvious choice unless they think they are set with Leinart. Some of the other teams (KC, ARI, SEA, TEN) only make sense if they really think they are going to the playoffs. ARI and SEA are done, but KC and TEN could both still win their divisions.
I wonder how quickly Orton could learn the offense. He may be coming back to CHI, but it isn't the same team when he was traded. He's probably an upgrade at QB from Hanie.I can do all things through pasta, which strengthens me.

Reportedly, Orton's agents are circulating rumors he doesn't want to play for Kansas City, one of the teams reportedly interested in claiming him off the waiver list. The reports suggest he wants to play for the Bears. There are several issues that are interesting- if a team claims him, they will be obligated to pay him the remaining $2.6 million he's guaranteed with his current contract, and Denver will be off the hook. However, if no team claims him and he clears waivers entirely, he becomes a free agent, and any team can negotiate with him to cut a deal.
It makes sense only for a team with a legitimate shot at making the playoffs, and with a quarterback injury problem to go after Orton, and that limits the teams that would be interested in paying a player like Orton the hefty sum of $2.6 million. Likeliest pssibilities other than the Bears, include these teams-
The Houston Texans, who appear headed for the playoffs for the first time in their team's history (They are 7-3 and lead the AFC South) and their starting quarterback Matt Schaub has been lost for the season. But they just signed another quarterback as a backup.
The KC Chiefs, who also lost their starting QB for the season, but they are 4-6 and the playoffs are a bit of a long shot.
The Miami Dolphins, who sorely need better quarterbacking, but they are 3-7 and would need a miracle to make the playoffs
The Washington Redskins, who also have had struggles with their quarterbacking, but I don't see them going after another Bears has-been to replace Rex Grossman.
One other remote possibility is that a team like the Detroit Lions might claim Orton simply to prevent the Bears from claiming him, and giving the Lions a better shot at making the playoffs for the first time in many years.
