I believe he'll be back. I think he is pulling a Phil Jackson. He'll take a year or two off, do some fishing, hunting, or whatever he enjoys, do some commentating for TV, then return to manage again.

LaRussa is good friends with Bob Knight and once Bob Knight walked away, he never even hinted at coming back. He's still suffering from shingles, he's still taking countless pills for it, but saying that probably adds some validity to Da Coach's opinion.

I think once he gets 100% healthy, LaRussa could get the itch again, but it definitely won't be next year. So the people who are thinking that Pujols will follow LaRussa somewhere else are just being hopeful.

One interesting aspect is that as of now, La Russa is the only person in MLB history to win a World Series in his last year as a manager. --per Elias Sports Bureau.

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is retiring. The Cardinals made the announcement this morning in St. Louis.

Twitter has been lighting up with rumors of LaRussa going to the White Sox as a special advisor to Robin Ventura. Looks as if Reinsdorf is interested in getting LaRussa back in some way.
