That'd be really nice for Cubs fans. I'm not really a Cubs fan, but I can't think of many organizations whose fans have been so misused by an organization, so I'd be happy for them to see some positive changes.

On a plus side, the Cubs have finally spent a lot of money on their minor league system and shown much more interest in the minor league draft etc. On a huge negative side, for some really stupid unexplained reason, the Cubs are asking season ticket owners for up-front money earlier than normal which understandably has upset these people. Smh. IMHO, there were too many egos on the Cubs for a manager like Sandberg to handle. Sandberg may be a major league manager some day, but he should be thankful that he did not get the Cubs job last year.
On another note, the Boston Globe has a very interesting read about the collapse of the Red Sox this year.

It sounds like this thing is getting into done-deal territory. That's good for the Cubs, now fans and media will have to overcome some tendencies to give Theo time to work over the organization... Going to take at least 3 years to start looking different, I'd think.

John Dennis WEEI
WEEI's John Dennis reported Wednesday morning that Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein has agreed with the Cubs on a five-year deal worth more than $15 million.

MLB Trade Rumors
The Cubs won't surrender Major League players or take on bad contracts in the deal, but they may send prospects and/or cash to the Red Sox. It appears that Epstein will need Boston's approval to bring employees with him.

All my friends who are cubs fans are excited about this. Not trying to rain on anybodies parade but I wouldnt be so excited about this. This guy has handed out a ton of horrible, long term contracts. I'm sure I dont have to tell cubs fans that bad, long term deals can destroy a team.

But you are only concentrating on a portion of what Epstein did with the Red Sox. You need to compare the Red Sox minor league system before Epstein arrived to now. There is a vast improvement. There were certainly some bad signings, but he also got Adrian Gonzalez last year via trade. He also signed players such as David Ortiz for very cheap. The Epstein hire represents a break from the status quo for the Cubs.Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

Just when some Chicago media were reporting this deal to bring Boston GM Theo Epstein to the Cubs was close to being finalized, the Boston Red Sox owner has publically expressed his anger and says the deal is "not close"-

Apparently the Cubs and Red Sox have agreed on a deal. Epstein has resigned from the Red Sox and will become the Cubs' President of Baseball Operations. Both teams will schedule press conferences for next Tuesday.
The reason for the delay is that next Tuesday is the next off-day for the World Series.
