  • OT- Dr Seckler Passing

I'm not sure how many alumni/students on here were in the Civil Engineering Department, but those who were probably knew Dr. Seckler. Dr. Seckler passed away last night. He was a professor at Bradley for over 40 years, starting in 1970. He will be missed by the many students lives he has touched.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! Yes, I was one of his students and he was a great teacher and was very knowledgeable when it came to Civil Engineering. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Do you happen to know the cause of his death? I don't see it in the PJStar obit.

I hear he had a stroke, but i'm not 100% sure, the email that was sent out to the civil engineering students said his heart stopped beating while he was holding the hands of his loved ones, so i'm not sure.

Oh wow, how sad! Well again my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. I guess we will never know when our time will be up, so we just have to live our lives the best we can.

          Jim Seckler

I so well remember "Lunch Hour" basketball, full court with Seckler, Joe Emmanuel and a revolving cast of other characters...

This is very sad news, wow. Civil engineer alumni myself. What a great guy and I always enjoyed his classes. Is there anyway the letter can be posted or sent as a PM?

Here is the email they sent out to us CEC students

              CEC Students,

On behalf of Dr. Al-Khafaji, please join us in expressing our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Dr. James Seckler, who passed away Wednesday evening in Peoria.

Dr. Seckler, a CEC faculty member for 41 years, made contributions to our university community that will live on through the many students and alumni whose professional and personal successes are directly linked to his legacy of giving of himself and his heart. His heart stopped beating on October 5 at 8:30 pm while his hands were being held by his loved ones. During his distinguished career, he extended his hands in friendship to students and colleagues alike and touched their hearts. We will miss him dearly but he will never be forgotten. His legacy of giving is ours to protect and honor. His dedication will be our guide as we continue the journey of giving our best to students and community.

Dr. Seckler's family will have a service to celebrate his life and it will be casual. Friends may call at Dr. Seckler??s home, 924 NE Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 9. A complete obituary is available at http://obits.dignitymemorial.com/dig...4&locale=en-US.

Also, Dr. Al-Khafaji will be leading an effort to establish the Dr. James G. Seckler Scholarship to be awarded annually, with preference given to students historically under-represented in Civil Engineering.

Our condolences go out to Dr. Seckler??s wife, Sherry, their sons Jim and John, and their entire family.

They never put COD in obituaries.

Sounds like he was a great professor.

Yes, he definitely was. Regarding the COD in obituaries, I've seen that occasionally. Not all, but some do post it.
