I suppose everyone noticed all the press given lately to the so-called hacking scandal in England -- mostly related to the Murdoch newspaper The News of the World.,.

But Scotland Yard now has evidence that maybe other journalists and perhaps more than 30 other publications have also been hacking and breaking laws in their intense effort to "get the stories" and scoop everyone else..

Interesting post but I respectfully disagree with some of this for the following reasons.

The authors of this report have received funding from three prominent conservative think tanks. Those think tanks whom have provided funds to the authors include:

American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI)
The Heritage Foundation
Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace

The authors of the UCLA report, Timothy Groseclose and Jeffrey Milyo, have also served as Fellows to some to these Think Tanks as well.

I found the UCLA report on the internet and also think that some of the "scoring" of think tanks/policy groups etc in the report to be curious as well. For example the NRA was scored at 45.9 which makes that organization barely conservative!?!?!?! I also think that a lot of people on this board would question the ACLU score of 49.8 which would characterize that organization on the conservative side of the balance sheet. Albeit just barely.

I am not denying media bias as perhaps the only way to attempt to avoid a bias is to have the reports read on the air by robots which would not be very interesting.

But they are not read by or written by robots, they are written by people who historically have been far left of the average American. There have been many studies like that UCLA one, and they have all found the same thing- that the mainstream media in the USA is far more liberal than the American public.

Here is a summary of how the media has leaned politically over the past 50+ years, and such reports always show the people writing and reporting the news are far left of center, and vote Democratic in an overwhelming majority, even during elections where Republicans won in landslides. So it is no surprise that their slant on any news is markedly liberal, and why they get so bent out of shape when there is one single media outlet that is less biased to the liberal extreme.-

by the fact that conservative radio outlets that discuss or report current events and news out draw liberal sites roughtly 10 to 1..
and Fox News outdraws all of their competitors combined by a 2 to 1 margin

Even the ultraliberal Huffinton Post concedes this saying the top 12 such shows on all of cable TV are on Fox..
Even the late night re-runs of some Fox programs significantly clobber the best that CNN or the others have to offer

And I can cite you studies that claim just the opposite. BTW, check the link that I provided in my previous post. That has the link to the true UCLA report (not the summary) with the tables that score the Think Tanks, Policy groups etc. Do you believe that the ACLU should be on the conservative side of the balance sheet as the UCLA report suggests?

Or could it be that people with moderate or liberal views do not simply watch one channel such as Fox in this example,for their news source therefore splitting the ratings pie. I believe this to be the case.

Speaking of ratings, it is interesting to see that Fox News' ratings have decreased more than any other news agency! There is hope out there for the viewing public!

Back to the media bias part of this thread since we are talking about Fox News... .

How many news presenters on Fox have endorsed, raised money, or campaigned openly for Republican candidates? Do the research and you will be amazed! Also, why is it that a news agency that "claims" to be fair and balanced has shows with hosts who have their own Political Action Committee over the past year to year and a half? Pretty convenient if you ask me!

I listen and read multiple sources of news material but refuse to watch Fox News as I believe that Fox is a corrupt News Agency. So yes, PBS is one of the services that I will look to for a news source. Look what happened to Keith Olbermann at MSNBC when he was caught donating to three Democratic candidates recently? He was suspended by the company! I don't agree with him on everything, but I very much like Olbermann's show. That being said, I think that MSNBC did the correct thing by suspending him. Now on the other hand, Fox News has people on their station whom have their own Political Action Committee's and whom are basically getting free "advertising" on their network via their shows. Do you expect people with their own PAC's to be "fair and balanced" on their Fox News Show? I wouldn't.
