  • Fukudome Is A Goner

To the Indians for two minor leaguers in what hopefully is a start to a housecleaning for the Cubs!

The Chicago Cubs traded outfielder Kosuke Fukudome to the Cleveland Indians on Thursday for two prospects.
    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Fukudome has the best On Base Percentage on the Cubs, well above any other regular player on the team.
He ranks among the leaders (14th) in the NL-

The Cubs have many problems, but Fukudome is one of the least of them. I guess this creates more playing time for Tyler Colvin (hitting .105).

From what I can find, the 2 prospects the Cubs receive are not very highly rated.

Just a couple of minor points here... I agree with you about Fukudome's stats, however at 34 years old, he should not be a part of a rebuilding process that is very much needed on the North side. Therefore, I very much welcome the move even though the players in return are not highly rated. As for Colvin, I think that the Cubs have handled him poorly for the past year to year and a half. Time to let the prospects like Colvin etc play to see what they can or can not do and give them experience.

The outfielder the Cubs got has insanely inconsistent stats in the minors, so taking a gamble on him may be worth it but idk about the pitcher......his stats are brutal.

Being a Cardinals fan, I'm happy to say one of these two teams just got even better....and the other.....well.....they'll still be the Cubs!

Did I see last night that Quade stated, "We can get back in this race." ??

That statement is more embarrassing then saying your season is through.

I wouldn't be bragging too much if I were a Cardinals fan... The Colby Rasmus trade is pretty much getting panned by a lot of baseball pundits!

On the off-chance you missed it, the Blue Jays, Cardinals and White Sox announced a pair of major trades today. …

I'm fine with that trade. Rasmus is a prima donna who apparently wants to do things his (and his dad's) way. Jay has been doing just fine (better than Rasmus) and Patterson had two of the Cards' three RBI's tonight. The two pitchers did ok as well (even though it WAS against Houston). We'll see how EJ does tomorrow night.

Anyways....I don't recall "bragging" about anything.....just making an observation.

the Cardinals have never made an embarrassing deal under the current administration....so I doubt this one will ever be remembered for that

Colby reminded me way too much like J.D. Drew for my liking. It's no secret he didn't get along with a vast majority of the clubhouse, but the trade was made for THIS season. We needed more starting pitching and more relief pitching. We got that.

But it does make us very weak next year, with only Holliday and Jay returning to the outfield (Berkman will be overpaid by some other team and leave).
Cards may have to start Zack Cox in the outfield next year, but idk if they would want to put a rookie out there Opening Day.
