Has anyone seen the latest ESPN commercial that pokes fun at the fake soccer injury concept? It's hilarious-
Also, Youtube has innumerable examples of totally fake soccer injuries- just search for soccer and fake injury. We have all seen soccer matches where numerous players are hauled off the field on stretchers only to return to the match 100% healthy seconds later. In my entire lifetime of watching thousands of sports events, I have not seen as many total "stretcher" injuries as I might see in a single meaningless soccer match.
I don't know if the international governing bodies will ever "man up" and take the necessary steps to curb this charade because they have stauchly dug in their heels and refused to adapt the rules in almost every other case where problems exist.
But the main problem is that soccer is the only major sport that allows the clock to keep running while players or a team fakes injuries, or stalls to get an advantage. Soccer should take a couple simple steps, IMO-- stop the clock whenever anyone is down more than a couple seconds- that would reduce most of the advantage a team might get from lying on the ground and writhing in faux pain. Then make the player leave the field immediately and stay out of the game for a minimum of 5 or 10 minutes of clock time. That would allow for real injuries to be evaluated properly, and be a disincentive for fake injuries to stall, or break teams' momentum. The stopping of the clock would help solve one other thing that annoys many fans, that they never know exactly when a match will end, because there is always an extra amount of "injury time" that is arbitrarily added onto the end of the match by the referee.

The "injury" to Erika of the Brazilian team near the end of the game was replayed, and it showed that after minimal or non-existent contact...
...she slumped to the ground, lay there for several minutes, and was carried off the field on a stretcher...
only to pop up off the stretcher instantly after it crossed the white line into the out of bounds area,
and then she sprinted back onto the field to play.
In the end the ref yellow-carded her for faking the injury and the time added to the clock as a result of Erika's charade, was just enough time to allow the USA to score the tying goal and set the stage for the win.
In the end, Erika embarrassed her team, got lots of cat calls and whistles, and was the goat causing her team to lose...
I have no pity for her

The US beats France 3-1 to move into the final against the winner of the game between Sweden and Japan this afternoon. In today's win the US team got some luck as well as solid play and goalkeeping to pull ahead in the second half and hold off the French team.

Shoot, I'm torn, do I root for my home country, or the one that has been devastated by earthquakes and tsunamis?... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!

USA let the game get away from them. You have to give the Japanese team a lot of credit for creating and making the most of their opportunities. I did walk away as a huge fan of Amby Wambach! Her end of game statements were pure class for a person who must have been as disappointed as any player in any sport after such a tough loss."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
