The new Tiger Woods- Rory McIlroy

I am not a golfer, but appreciate the skills of the top players. Is anyone else noticing what young golf prodigy Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is doing?
After running out to a big lead in this year's Master's, he became the youngest player ever to lead the Master's after Day 1. Going into the final day, he had a 4-stroke lead, but played poorly on the final day and faded.

But in the US Open he shot a 6 under par 65 Thursday to lead the field by 3 strokes. Today on day 2, he is already 5 under through 14 holes for a current score of 11 under par! He leads the field by 8 strokes! The guy is playing unbelieveably well.

After a couple more birdies, Rory McIlroy is now -13 with 1 more hole to play in round 2. He has already surpassed the all time record for the US Open. No player has ever been farther under par at any point in the history of the US Open. He is making this very difficult course look easy. He now has a 10 stroke lead.
The previous record was -12 by Tiger Woods in 2000.

add: McIlroy landed in the water next to the green and shot a double-bogey on 18 (which he birdied yesterday). He is 11 under par through the second round.

Rory is just putting on a clinic. 66-65 is ridiculous for a US Open. How would you feel having to tee off this afternoon knowing the leader is at -11

Kidding aside, my dad was a golfer for PHS (Central) and once all the Tiger news of him cheating came out, he said Tiger would never be the same. He was right on that, and he just said to me that Rory is going to win 5 majors in the next half decade. He definitely has the skills to do so, but so did Lucas Glover.

Since the media is obsessed with "the clutch" and "choking" these days, Rory will have to prove he can do the opposite of what he did at the Masters before he gets all the credit, but this is reminding me of Tiger at the 2000 US Open.

I like Rory alot....but he is not the NEW Tiger Woods lol.

- 6 other PGA Tour Wins
- 1 European Tour Win
- 1 Asian Tour Win
- 21 Amateur Wins

Rory has....

- 1 PGA Tour Win
- 1 European Tour Win
- 5 Amateur Wins

Woods may never be the same...but I still think he will return to being the best.

I meant the comparison in that he seems to be the darling of the sports media now that Tiger is out of that picture.

But there are other writers who are making the comparison.

I think Rory's experiences at Augusta and at the British last year will help him alot. In theory, he fell apart after the first round lead at the British and then in the final round at Augusta so he should make it through this whole tournament, right?

Also, when you have the lowest aggregate total in US Open history I think Tiger comparisons are fair.

ehhh you can't compare course-course...last year McD was Even.

TW won by 15 shots.... -12 to +3

so its as close as it gets...but total score means nothing obv... can't anoint him yet....
