why's the media making such a huge crappy deal out of Osama bin Laden being UNARMED when he was shot???

Just how many of the thousands of people he has slaughtered had been unarmed?? Even the children killed on 9-1-1 didn't carry any weapons!!

    But - one other thing...
if the news now says he was unarmed...then why were all the media outlets so anxious to rush to press with the false story that he WAS armed??

Don't they check these things out or do any homework first??
In the first few hours after the world learned that Osama bin Laden was dead, most news reports said he had been involved in the firefight and at least implied that he was armed when he died. Read what officials said.

It's the "BREAKING NEWS" syndrome. The proliferation of cable news outlets has created so much competition in the news-gathering business that speed has trumped accuracy. Beat the competion to the punch with "BREAKING NEWS" and sort out the facts later. Most of these reporters couldn't survice a Paul Snider journalism course.

By the way, I agree completely about the armed/unarmed business. Who gives a dump. He got off too easily.

Oops! ... "SURVIVE" a Paul Snider journalism course. Sorry, Paul.

Shooting him was the right call even if he was asleep when we walked in. I just want to see the body now. I understand the decision not to, but I really want to see it out of morbid curiosity.

why couldn't we just sneak in, kill him, then get out and never say a word...
no need to boast and take credit or show pictures...that way then they'd never know how we did it or who did it..
it would give them nightmares worrying about our ability to do it again any time...
kind-of a Bourne-scenario ..instead of making it a front page bragging point

The bad parts are that there were screw-ups even tho we essentially attacked an unarmed compound....we trashed a $100 million helicopter, then the releases were constantly being altered as if nobody really knew what happened and we made up a lot of it at first.

WAY too much information and misinformation on this operation. I also disagree with the use of "imbedded reporters'' in our military operations. They thrive on uncovering "atrocities," collateral damage, civilian deaths, friendly fire deaths, etc. They cover war as if it's a sporting event. We don't need to know every detail. Our military personnel have a difficult and dangerous enough job and don't need a scribe looking over their shoulders and reporting their every move.

Are you kidding? Way too much political capital to pass up.

I agree it would have been the best thing to do and I bet possible.

Osama is gone and the world is a much better place because of it. This time I DO believe our government when they say he is dead. If he wasn't, how long would it be before he made another video for the internet. Proclaiming America is incompetent or wrong. Saying we will never find him and he is planning an attack on Israel. The guy couldn't help himself.

No way Obama would say on national t.v. we got him if we didn't. It would kill his credibility and reputation. Who cares if we don't see the body. He Gone!

Now here is some other stuff that I don't believe from our government. I keep hearing that we had gathered alot of intel and information on this compound. This news started coming in along time ago that Osama was there. With all the planning and practice that went into this raid I am positive we used our satellites to watch this compound. We knew how many people were there. How many people came and went. I'll bet we were watching for weeks if not months. They knew alot of women and kids were there. The initial reports from Obamas press secretary of "significant resistance" were a joke. Reports of a "firefight". Really??? Now reports come out now that one person fired one bullet. Hmmm

Even though our Navy Seals are prepared for everything, they new going in that they clearly had the upper hand. We only sent in 24 soldiers. If they expected heavy resistance would we do that?

Anyone reading about how Osama died in 2002 or Marphan's Syndrome(sp) and has been on ice and Obama chose this timing to announce his death and act like he led the operation to boost his election chances next year.

                    I have.

The source is the guy they based harrison ford's character in Patriot Games off of.

Interesting plot for the next Tom Clancy book.

But if there was any truth to this, Obama surely wouldn't have chosen now, more than 1 1/2 years from the election to pull this off. His approval ratings will only go down from here. He would have pulled it off just prior to the 2012 election if he really wanted to help his reelection chances.

Jack Jr. already killed bin laden in Clancy's last book.

I don't care how many Navy Seals were involved. or how many persons were in the compound at the time and had weapons, or how many women and children were there. All I care about is the murderous scumbag is dead and I don't need to know all the details. Also, in kw's ridiculous defense of mendenhall he forgot that we DID hear bin laden's side of the story on 9/11 when 3000 died.
