  • Go Hawks!

After barely making it into this year's NHL playoffs, the Chicago Blackhawks are facing elimination in their first round series with the top team in the NHL, the Vancouver Canucks. The Hawks lost the first 3 games, but have now won the last 2. Tonight's game is a must-win for the Stanley Cup Champions.
Usual starting goalie Roberto Luongo has been benched tonight, and backup Cory Schneider will start in his place. The game starts in a few minutes.
    Go Hawks!-

Dave Bolland just tied the game late in the 2nd to bring the Hawks even at 2-2 apiece. This may be an overtime game tonight.

What a game last night! I don't claim to be a die-hard Hawks fan, but when it comes to play-offs, it's hard NOT to watch them and get into it until they're done. No doubt that a tense BU game is much more nerve-wracking, but indeed, last night's game kept me on edge from the 3rd period until Mr. Smith's game-winner!
Whatever happens, the last 3 games have been very fun to watch, and the Hawks have done well for an 8th seed, and at least have exceeded my expectations in the series.

I thought the Canucks had all the momentum working for them in the O.T., but Crawford was solid enough before the drama unfolded. I was shocked when the puck went past Luongo at the end.

He is a laugh- the GM of the Canucks is now blaming the referees for last night's loss, and their near collapse.-
Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis took center stage on the eve of his team's seventh game with the Blackhawks, expressing his frustration with the officiating in the series.

You want to see a REALLY poorly officiated game, look at tonight's. A disallowed goal that was CLEARLY a goal BEFORE play was stopped. AND A missed Blackhawk Penalty shot in Overtime when that SOB hit our man UNDER THE LEGS and flipped him! He went AIRBORNE!! Canucks did NOT deserve the W tonight and in my mind they're eliminated.

Last night's game between the Hawks and Cannucks was riveting! Everytime I tried to switch away to watch baseball or basketball playoffs I hurried back to hockey. And I am a casual fan with no allegiance to either team playing. The Toews short handed goal to tie as time wound down was incredible.

This game should be reason to get Hockey off Versus and onto bigger cable or national network.

With the advent of big screen, high def, television, and more innovative/sophisticated broadcasting productions (goal cam, corner cam, slow mo replay) hockey becomes one of the best sports shows to watch on TV. The rule changes the NHL has introduced over time have made the game fun to watch!

With the white ice background, the players jump off the tv screen in high def. Wonder if Versus or NBC would ever consider the "aerial cam" used at NFL games to capture the view from over the center of the ice?

Funny you mention getting off Versus since if I remember correctly they just signed a new agreement to stay there. Personally I wish they would switch to a bigger network as well, but they got a good thing going for them.

BTW the Hawks game last night was ridiculous. I literally sat at BWW in stunned disbelief at how that ended. Just goes to show that turnovers in any sport are costly.

                        Were you in East Peoria?

Yup but I didn't get there until just after the start of the 3rd period because I was coming back from Chicago. Fortunately 560AM lasted just long enough for the Cubs game and postgame to end and then 720AM started broadcasting the game which got me back into Peoria.

I was there as well! The place erupted after the first goal. I was shaking the whole overtime and I MAY have let a few nasty words slip when we weren't given a penalty shot on our power play with that dirty hit (Canucks man hit our man from under the legs and he went airborne.) I though for sure they were going to take it getting a power play that early in OT, but our best chance to score was wasted. Shot it right into Luongo's leg gear.
