Right, Military gets paid the 1st and 15th. They are getting paid their salary from 1-8 April so they will see about half of their mid month pay. Last time they did get back pay, but there is really no guarantee that I have found they will receive their back pay when the "shut-down" ends. Other than that a kenyan would have a coup on his hands, lol.

Yeah I have a few good friends of mine here that are on the military side, and the idea of having to wait on paychecks doesn't resonate great with them. Good thing we don't have house/car payments, or student loans, or security clearance reviews, or anything else coming up this month or this could be a big problem, oh wait.

My wife is a sub contractor for the govt and it is 2/3 of our income-we will be affected
They said the non essential govt employees won't get paid so I wonder why the house of reps, senate, and president get paid since they must be non essential since they can't figure out a budget.
Another thing is it is real easy to sit back and say cut this or that but then what & who does it effect.

Agreed. But, supposedly a deal has been reached - so i get to continue to work. Yay for victories.

Obviously this is a moot point now...

But I work for the Federal government, and am deemed "essential", so would have kept working regardless, with no pay until the shutdown ended. My take in this is that if the government is going to "shut down", then really shut it down...all of it. I promise you that if that happened, it would not stay shut down long, and it would never shut down again.

Some of you have no clue what all would be affected if the government really shut down...meaning all of it...including everything deemed "essential".

Just a little sampling of what would happen if it really shut down...

There would be no aviation traffic in the U.S.
There would be no weather watches or warnings for severe weather. Weather forecasting models would not run, and satellite and observational weather data would cease. Thus, even the private meteorologists like TWC and other media would be unable to provide a forecast.
All the military would cease to operate...the troops would all be sent home immediately.
Homeland security would all be shut down.
Border Patrol would no longer operate...anyone could freely enter the country.
Plus countless other things that everyone takes for granted.

              Have you ever flown anywhere?
Used a weather forecast or warning?

Trust me, you'd care if the whole government shut down...

I'd like the WHOLE government to shut down for just a day or two. I guarantee that you would change your tune if that happened just once.

BTW, I'd answer none of the above on the poll. C is closest, but most vital services would have continued due to the "shutdown" not being a total shutdown. National Parks and Zoos would have been closed, but not sure that is really vital. A total shutdown would have made D the obvious answer, as virtually 100% of the people in the U.S. are dependent on the government. Unfortunately, many of them are totally unaware of just how dependent on it they are. They'd find out real quick if there was ever a 100% shutdown.

I don't think anyone realized how many federal employees we have here at Bradleyfans. Thats pretty interesting. Yea, i'm "non-essential". So my key card would have stopped working - but due tot he compromise, I do in fact get to go back to work on monday, and I couldn't be happier about it.
