    Hmmm......

"Carlos Silva was informed Saturday that he will not make the Cubs' roster, leaving Andrew Cashner as the fifth starter."

    No big trade interest, but....

"I told Carlos Silva there was not a spot for him unless there's an injury between now and Opening Day," general manager Jim Hendry said. "We will explore trade opportunities with other clubs."

One hundred years provides more than several lifetimes full of highlights, some lowlights, and many memories. Here’s a look at 100 years of the Western Golf Association and the Western Open. …

I agree with the move, but I'm a little sad to see Carlos go. When I was at Bradley last year I met him down at Sully's during one of his rehab assignments with the Chiefs, he bought a round of drinks for all of us and we got to talk a little bit. Pretty nice and funny guy.

He did so well last year, I haven't been able to keep up with the news. Did anything happen to his arm? Or was last year just a fluke?

If by "so well last year" you mean 2-6 with a 6.15 ERA over his final 10 outings...

10-6 overall. The majority of the season he killed it until the "final 10 outings". You need to look at the big picture, when you're judged, does everyone only quote your worst performances?

So, again I ask, something very obviously happened. I wonder if he pushed himself too hard and secretly hurt something. There was a very clear performance dive. Hmmm. Guess no one knows.

My guess would be they wanted Cashner as the 5th starter and they didn't believe Silva would accept being the long man in the bullpen. I like it because Cashner has electric stuff and would be wasted in the bullpen, especially with Marshall, Grabow and Wood lined up as the set up guys for Marmol.

I think a TERRIBLE spring combined with the fight in the dugout during spring training eventually led to the release. After Silva's heart scare last year he really wasn't the same pitcher and probably never will be.

Silva also said some comments after he was asked to accept a role at AAA this year that rubbed a lot of people in the Cubs organization the wrong way. Silva gave some parting shots too upon his release, and here's a response from Mike Quade. I highly recommend watching this brief interview, it really shows the fire that Quade brings, even if the circumstances aren't the best.

One thing that has been lacking out of the Cubs' managerial post for the past four seasons has been that sense of fire that most fans desire. Coming into h...

But it takes some stones to throw the guy out on the street and eat that contract as well!
