Even as a Reds fan, this is bad to hear. You never want this for anyone.

That classy franchise known as the Cincinnati Reds has already chirpped in on the situation. I suppose the Cardinals should be somewhat endeared that a team who did win the division last year still envies our franchise so much.

Well I can certainly understand how a division rival would like Wainwright being out.

The Score was giddy today too.

As was Dave Kaplan. I'm a Cubs fan, but I would prefer to win a division (please) with teams at full strength.

I would too, but I will take it however we can. Lord knows the Reds have been bad enough(save last season) for too long.

Shouldn't hurt their chances. Some don't think injuries make a difference. Oops, wrong sport.

You never want to see anyone have to go through tommy john. It also hurts that Wainwrights club option was contingent on his finishing 2011 healthy.

As a Cubs fan, it is bittersweet since we wont have to face him, but at the same time you want to win the division at full strength and dont want to see someone get hurt.

Without Wainwright I dont see the Cardinals finishing in the top 2, I think Milwaukee and Cincy could finish ahead of them. Carpenter and Lohse have to stay healthy and Garcia will have to at least equal his awesome rookie year.

In an attempt to not throw away the season before it starts, the Cards could compete if our offense shows up. Pujols and Holiday should be givens, if Raz can finally put it together and Berkman makes a minor comback both could hit 270-280 and hit 25 hrs. Until last year skip was a .300 hitter, and Freese showed some promise before getting injured. Yadi has also showed ability to hit 270. Again I know it's hoping for a lot, but I can't write us off yet. We definietly won't be winning games around pitching like last year.

As far as Waino's contract, the Cards will like pick those two years up anyways or work out an extension with major incentives. Even off of TJ surgery having Waino at $9 and $12 mil is an absolute steal.
