  • Czech Tradition and Chuck Norris

This has to be one of the funniest stories I have heard...but it is true, and our own poster CzechBrave can probably confirm.....
so enjoy it if you are a Chuck Norris fan...

My daughter has spent the last 3 summers in the Czech Republic and tells this story...
as a long time Czech tradition, families keep carp in their bathtub and then beat them over the head and eat them on Christmas day?...
I doubt many of you reading this will buy this story since it's so ridiculous, but you just have to trust me on this one, it IS true...

    Anyway......
American Movie star Chuck Norris just happens to be extremely popular in the Czech Republic, and he did a couple commercials for a Czech phone company around Christmas and this one is really funny but it also has the Czech Christmas carp tradition in it...

Yeah, thats all on the up and up. For a land-locked country, the CZ really likes to dine on carp as it's christmas "feast". So in the weeks leading up to winter, you'll see stands on the sides of major roads in downtown prague, with bathtubs full of live fish, and slaughtering tables. Most of the time, these are outside of the churches. And as people are coming and going, they may stop to buy a fish for christmas, at that point, some angry lookin' Czech dude will yank one out of the tub, either club it in the head, or smash it on the table to kill it, toss it in a bag and send it on its way. Some people will buy them live, to keep at home, in perhaps their own bathtub right up until they need them to maintain freshness. It can be kinda disturbing because there is a fair amount of blood involved in this, and it just kind of runs down into the street.

As for Chuck Norris, i occasionally saw him in print adds there - so it wouldn't surprise me if hes showed up in a carp commercial. So there ya go. if you find yourself in prague for christmas, join in on the fun!

with all the flying carp in the Illinois River that literally jump right into your boat or into your lap, I gotta believe that Central IL can make a killing marketing itself as a tourist destination for Czech citizens!!

        Here's a Czech/Central Illinois connection...

As you might guess there's a wildly popular Czech TV versionof American Idol...
        it's called "CeskoSuperstar"

As we speak -- the hottest act is a teen that's become an overnight Czech sensation..and the entire nation is "drooling" for this kid...

his name is Noah Ellenwood and now he's advanced to the round of 12 in this season's "Czech Idol"
....he is the son of Mel and Amy (Klopfenstein) Ellenwood of Morton, IL who serve as missionaries in the Czech Republic and who have hosted many localkids there in the summers.....

        Here's his audition..
