I just think, and Tom Jackson said this too, that if he is that hurt you need to show some priorities to him as a franchise player as well as for his own personal health. Get him some ice or crutches, but why in the world is he riding a bike? He's got torn ligaments and you have the best money can buy in terms of medical staffs. They should be plenty educated enough in terms of what the injury is and if the guy can or can't go, that's a disgrace in itself. But the Bears could have saved their star QB a lot of grief by not letting their fans seeing him walking back out on the field, trying to play and continuing to walk around on the sidelines. Not to mention there was no clear hit where he came up limping, the whole thing was a mess.

And Caleb Hanie at #3 BEHIND Todd Collins?? Jay Cutty might have had a legitimate excuse but for all the reasons just mentioned and himself not showing any emotion about it makes a compelling case for me to consider burning my Cutler jersey if I'm a Bears fan.
So inother words it was all about "perception" to you (and many others). No big hit that we saw ala Joe thiesman....no tears, no blood..no crutches....no cart carrying him off....

No emotion....he was devastated. Did you see him on the side lines ? Jay is NOT an emotional guy, he's rather quiet. He took it hard but just becuase he wasn't crying and throwing his helmet lets burn his jesey.

I don't understand how some people think...

ANd the Bears medical staff did all the correct things.....an injury like that leaves you with poor stability....straight line mvts like a bike with little weight bearing are doable...even walking...but a hard plant with cutting and turning/twisting is where your limitations are and where you risk further more devastating injury.

I know how hard it is to move around on a bad knee and will not question Cutler's toughness. My question is to the coaching staff. Why leave Cutler out to dry for 24 hours? Why not come out right after the game and say what you did yesterday. The visual of Cutler up walking around, still wearing his pads, no crutches, nothing wrapped up....I can see where Bears fans would be wondering why he isn't playing.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

Have you ever tried to do anything on a weakened knee, let alone try to play quarterback in the NFL? Your MCL is the 2nd strongest ligament you have in your knee outside of your ACL. You blow your MCL, it usually comes with a tear in the meniscus as well since the 2 are attached on the inside portion of the knee. As a quarterback/athlete, you blow your MCL you cant plant, cut to get away from defenders, or step into a throw (not that Cutler does that anyway ) I was one of the people that questioned him when it happened, after finding out what it was I fully understand. As a former athletic training student he did the right thing and the doctors and ATs did their jobs. You run him out there with that knee in that condition, you run the risk of him getting the "unhappy triad" which is a torn ACL, MCL, and Meniscus which takes a year and a half plus to recover from.

To those talking about Rivers on a torn ACL: you have another ligament back there that helps support the knee, you have NOTHING else on the inside portion of your knee other than the MCL. Roberto Garza was born without an ACL in his left knee.... He seems to be doing fine
Well maybe someone should have talked to Drew Brees earlier this year about not playing on an mcl sprain. Brees played most of the 2010 season and a playoff game with a mcl sprain albeit the sprain was probably not as bad as Cutler's. However, Brees ran the risk of stability issues, mobility, and further damage to his knee and still went out on the field to quarterback his team. With an MCL sprain, Brees threw 33 touchdown passes and had a 90.9 quarterback ranking for the year. On the other hand, Cutler was strong enough to go out to dinner hours after his MCL sprain. To say the least, that was not a very smart move by Cutler.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Toughnes...no.....It only meant the bullet AND the break weren't bad enough to stop them from everyday life....had either been bad enough they would have been "sidelined".....

Cutler could walk but anyone that isn't a bear hater and saw him try those two series could clearly see he couldn't push off...run or do whatever needed to help the Bears win. Yeah he could have stayed in and handed off to the RB's 75 times but THAT wasn't going to get the Bears anywhere.

I listen to fans that have never played the game, listened to announcers being complete jag bags and laugh before having ONE shread of evidence just what was wrong. Anyone REALLY think Jay didn't want to be out there. Mercy.

The ONLY guys opinions that matter are his Bear team mates and coaches and they ALL had Jays back saying he's a good team mate, tough as they come and a competitior.

His O line said, it was beyond obvious he couldn't go.....and again, Lovie stated the Doctors/trainers made the call. You risk further injury with the leg by taking a partial tear to a complete tear , blowing your career and trying to throw with off ONE leg is not only stoopid he could end up blowing out an arm.

Cutler doesn't miss games....played behind a susupect O line and got the shat beat out of him ALL year and got back up every time and never ONCE complained about no protection. Oh and he plays with freakin diabetes...yeah what a puss.

Pack won...they were the better team. Good game. Would have liked to see what Jay could have done the second half when the Bear D finally stepped up but it doesn't matter..you play the hand you are dealt and even with that they almost pulled it out.

          Hats off to Caleb.....congrats Packers.
Sorry Dogs, but the Bear fans are the ones complaining about their QB not playing. The fan burning a Cutler jersey wasn't a Packer fan. I believe if he was able to play he would have. No sense hurting your team by trying to play on one leg.

Just to change the subject a little-
A Packers fan working at a suburban Chicago car dealership was fired because he would not remove his Green Bay Packers tie.
A car salesman in suburban Chicago has been fired for refusing to remove a Green Bay Packers tie.

He was given 5 warnings that he would be fired if he didn't remove the tie, and he refused. The car dealership has an advertising partnership with the Bears, and the salesman says that if he had known that, he would not have worn the tie.

seems to me it was poorly handled all the way around. I would have told the salesman...do you really think it's appropriate to wear a Packer tie in the middle of Bears city.....people don't need much of reason not to buy cars right now...so why do anything that might offend a prospective buyer.....not a smart move by the salesperson and the GM could have handled it better too.....of course I would have let him wear it here being the Packer fan I am.....and if he continues to sell alot of cars

Just heard him being interviewed on ESPN. He told a different version. Some people take sports way too seriously.

This is ridiculous all the way around.

Everyone should boycott the car dealer....what a tool.

I and another poster on this board know of a manager at an area car dealership who loves to show off his cheesehead hat to customers regardless of the customer's fan affiliation. I have to admit that it is pretty effective!

I don't know that he's a tool....but it seems he mishandled it....I think he should explain why it's not a good idea to wear the tie and maybe the salesman would have understood...instead of just saying you are fired if you leave the tie on.

People are too serious about their sports and some rivalries.........I could see this happening if it was say the red sox and yankee fans involved.

Again, people have different thresholds of pain. Brees was probably playing on a grade 1 MCL sprain. That means the ligament was just stretched. A grade 2 sprain which is what Cutler had means there is a partial tear. A grade 3 sprain means the ligament is completely torn. A grade 2 sprain is probably the toughest to deal with, because it is still attached but is also torn. It depends on how torn it is, because grade 2 just means it is partially torn, which means it could have a small tear or it could be barely still attached. A grade 2 tear almost always comes with at least a partial tear in the meniscus as well, which is the cushion you have between your femur and your tibia.

I still dont see how going out to dinner with his girlfriend has any relevance on if he should have played or not?
