???It??s awful hard,???? said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??s a hometown thing. It??s bragging rights.??Tags: None

Well I don't follow baseball that closely, but I don't get it for the Cubs. I don't think they will be good for a while and the Pitcher and SS they traded sound like the top minor league prospects they have. I thought they would be trying to build up the minors.
I will consider the offseason a flop if they can't deal Carlos Z. He had a strong finish to the season and it is time to get what you can for him.

So instead of losing 100 games the cubs will lose 95 now. I'm a cardinals fan, and I love the fact that Jim Hendry is still their GM. It just seems like the cubs will never learn that you can't just keep giving up prospects for guys who are already on the way out of their prime or only have a few years left. I guess part of it is they just have to make the fans think every year they're trying to win instead of just conceding that we have to rebuild and do things the right way."How do you go from where you are to where you want to be? I think you have to have an enthusiasm for life. You have to have a dream, a goal, and you have to be willing to work for it." - Jim Valvano

Don't like this trade at all. I'm not sure what the point of it is, as this will likely be a lost season anyways. I understand that Garza is under team control for another few years, but we gave up a lot of talent to the Rays. Archer was our #1 prospect and absolutely dominated AA last year. Lee is incredibly talented and I was looking forward to seeing either he or Castro move to second base in a few years to solidify our middle infield for years to come. Chirinos and Guyer are decent prospects, but aren't likely to project as more than a fourth outfielder or a backup catcher, and the Cubs also have Brett Jackson and Wellington Castillo. Regardless, I thought the point of a rebuilding season was to load up on prospects and try to eliminate big contracts. We're doing the opposite. Typical Cubs. This is just the tip of the iceberg...

I hope the Cubs aren't done with strengthening their lineup and bullpen yet. Garza will be a good pitcher, but he will essentially replace Ted Lilly, and that makes the rotation a bit stronger.
But even if Carlos Pe?ħa can replace the production of Derrick Lee, the Cubs still won't be much different than last year, will they?
