So anyone wonder why there's such a temptation to do steroids if it helps a guy get there??
As recently as the 1980's many players sought off-season jobs to make a living, and in the 1970's the average MLB salary was $20,000...
so in just one generation, the MLB average salary has increased over 15,000% (150 fold!)...
even the price of a college education has only increased 4-fold since then, and the cost of a gallon of gas (which was 59 cents in 1976) has gone up 5-fold in that interval...
