Money talks...FIFA might be more corrupt than BCS. I like how the president talks about the game being played with fairness and sportsmanship then awards it to a country who was caught planning a vote for vote scandal.

FIFA has this big event to announce the World Cup host country. Lots of drama and anticipation. World leaders present at this announcement. Media coverage from around the world..... Why do they announce the host for the next 2 Cups? Doesn't it make sense to do this every 4 years to take advantage of this worldwide attention. I think 8 years notice is enough time for a host to prepare. Now they make an announcement for an event 12 years away

Get your application in now for the 2042 World Cup. Deadline is December 31st, 2010.

                    Russia - OK
                    but Qatar????

Negatives - No drinking, women are treated like 2nd class citizens, geographically speaking not very safe, 100 degree weather, extremely small population, has never been in the WC.

Positives - Great graphical presentation and tons of $$$$$.

I blame the west for allowing these countries to have so much wealth that they can do these types of things. Imagine if we develop alternative energy?

Do you think that some of that money might have somehow influenced those making this decision? It is the only way Qatar could have possibly even come into this decision.

                        Just a little.

Sooooo, I think we should do what a lot of Englishmen are saying on their boards: Start our reserves in the WC or just don't show up. This decision shows that FIFA is beyond corrupt. The IOC decision not to take the Games to the US a year ago made sense. Brazil actually could sustain the events. But this decision by FIFA is ridiculous. The USA and England were the only feasible options for 2022. England screwed themselves through the press, leaving a clear path for the US, the most stable bid and the one that could literally host the WC the next day. FIFA is a joke, and while I will still watch it, I have lost ALL of the respect I have for the governing body and the selection process. This World Cup will be the poorest attended and the least entertaining/competitive (and that INCLUDES the doozies we had in South Africa including the Final). You really want to bring soccer to a part of the world where it's not a major sport? Try the United States, a country where it is NOT the most popular sport (Qutar) they don't even have many other sports that people play en masse there. I feel sorry for the players who will have to play there.
... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

well -- less than a month after FIFA named Russia (2018 ) and Qatar (2022) as World Cup hosts, just as predicted -- all heck is breaking loose...

scandal has been proven and even more has been alleged...and now FIFA is scrambling to find a solution which may mean moving the games to a different host....

The 24-member voting panel of FIFA are virtually all crooked, two were just caught on film taking bribes, and many more are suspected to be on the take for their votes..
Oddly -- the vast majority of those already proven to be corrupt & have taken bribes are from developing nations such as Mali, Tunisia, Botswana, Nigeria, Tonga, and Tahiti...

Here's the problem -- whenever there's a corrupt guy exposed, FIFA only penalizes the individual..like this guy who's banned for a ridiculously tiny 3-years, but then the nation simply appoints yet another corrupt guy to take his place.
The entire nation needs to be banned when there's corruption!

Just reading about all the corruption in the World Cup is like watching the Keystone Cops....it's a joke..

It's like who do the cops go after the Pimp or the street walker? Throw one street walker in the can and another one just replaces her. Keep the pimp in business and he can keep supplying you.

If they just went after the countries that were doing the bribing and yanked out the games then you would probably keep the corruption down.
