@ Houston - Jealous over Votto or Gomes?
Votto, my bad on the wrong guy.

And JD, you can not be serious to try and say that its ok for Phillips to flat out disrespect the entire Cardinals organization then the next night think its all cool and he can tap Molina on his shin guards just because that is what he does?

If a guy one night spits in your face he does not get a free pass the next night just because well he has his own tradtion. I would completely expect if it were the other way around and a Cardinal ran his mouth and disrepected the Reds someone on the Reds would do something about it.

Molina did not start that fight, Phillips started the fight the night before and he provoked it with his little tradition.

Reds are the better team by a bunch this season, they are very good with awesome pitching. But because of Phillips and Cueto the team to me is nothing but a bunch of punk bush leaguers. Zero class.

I didn't say what Phillips said was fine. But you don't need to fight someone to "defend" your honor.

All the Cards had to do was tell Phillips that they (the Reds) haven't won a pennant since Moby Dick was a minnow.

The fight was ignorant and unnecessary. And it got people hurt.

I won't get into the zero class part of it, because every team has their bad side.

          Division dynasty....okay.

I couldn't figure out what team had won all the World Series titles from that division.

            and for the record....

I do not like Dusty Baker, although I think he has done a good job this season.

I have never been a Phillips fan.

I do not think the Reds should have kept Cueto.

Just because I am a fan doesn't mean I like every player on the team. It also does not make me call other teams players names as if I were in 3rd grade.

Dude...he tapped Molina's shins twice. One beforehand which Molina kicked away and then again after phillips saw that molina kicked it away.

Phillips knew exactly what he was doing when he did it that second time. And phillips was the first one to take off his helmet and really step it up.

Phillips knew what he was doing..he started it. Phillips is the one taking his helmet and yelling first..he escalated it. Cueto was a little b*!ch and fought like a true p&$$y....

Enjoy this season......the only dynasty in the NL Central will be back and back and back like usual.
Is this the way everyone talks now?

                I surely hope not.

Maybe I should go buy Grand Theft Auto, so I can talk tougher.

We see this whole situation completely different. I though have a very sneaking suspicion that if Molina was mouthing off about the Reds and came up to bat the next night and one of the Reds catchers got up in Molina's face or he happened to catch a fastball in his back, your prospective would be a whole lot different.

Its cool you apparently believe that a war of words is sufficent, I believe if your going to disrespect someone or an organization then if you get a punch or a ball in your back its equal retribution.

Molina got a whole heck of a lot more respect in his club house then he ever would have if he would have run to the press and started a running of mouth contest. Ill take guys like Molina everyday over guys like Phillips.

I just do not believe you have to resort to violence to resort disputes.

If Phillips does not do what he did either with his mouth or with his thought that his tradition tapping shin guards, then there would have been no violence.

But since he decided to do both, what exactly else should have the Cardinals done. Just let him go.

If he would have not tapped the shin guards then the first pitch should have went to his back and that would have been that. Instead Phillips decided his "traditon" was what he should do and his actions caused the entire situation.

If you do something to disrespect another team you deserve equal retaliation and it needs to be done on the field. Your a big enough man to run your mouth, you should be a big enough man to suffer consequences.

I guess I am a lot old school. Same with basketball, I believe you do not give up easy layups and if anyone ever comes down the lane they get put on their back. In baseball if you hit my batter, you get the same back to you.

But with all that said, JD since you do not condone any violence, how would you have handled this situation?

A hard foul in basketball is different then starting a bench clearing brawl in baseball, IMO.

How would I have handled the situation?

From the Reds point of view. I would have sat Phillips out for his comments and publicly stated that I felt his views were personal and not organizational.

From the Cards view, I would have sought him out BEFORE the game and talked to him IF I had a problem. To me, if you were really so upset about it you could have handled it then. To do it on the field, during the game is not needed.

I also would have probably reminded Phillips that the Cards have owned and still own the Reds in head to head matchups and he should learn to shut his mouth when he has never won anything.

I would not have started a brawl that lead to injuries and suspensions.

What good did that fight do anyway? Since that series, the Reds have run away with the division.

Did you know the Cardinals have the WORST record in baseball since August 14th? The worst in the entire league?

The Reds needed to handle Phillips but I get the feeling he isnt the type to be "handled"

As for the Cardinals, I do not agree they should search out Phillips before the game and talk it out. This isnt the View. Talking it out is for the PC BS.

I truely believe the Cardinals were not going to do anything. But Phillips decided to tempt fate and the Cardinals, specifically Molina did what he had to do.

As far as the Cardinals are concerned regarding their record, they are proving they are a bunch of under achieving quiters this season. Their effort is disgusting, you do not go on a road trip to Washington, Pittsburgh and Houston and lose 8 of 10 ever. They are embarassing.

The Reds are very good and will continue to be good for a long time, they have quality pitching and a young hungry lineup.

At what age would you advocate this advice to someone. I work with younger kids. Should I teach them to punch people they don't get along with? Or maybe use weapons?

So Molina had to do what he did because Phillips taps the ump and catcher before batting?

                                I do not understand that.
