The Arizona Diamondbacks fired their manager A.J. Hinch, and replaced him with Interim Manager Kirk Gibson. Gibson, who spent most of his playing career with the Detroit Tigers is best remembered for a late game home run he hit as a LA Dodger in game 1 of the 1988 World Series when he limped around the bases on a couple bad legs. He was ther NL MVP in 1988.
He was a bench coach for the Diamondbacks before getting the promotion to manager.

The Diamondbacks are 31-48 and buried in last place in the National League West 15 1/2 games back of first and 9 1/2 back of the closest team.They are reported to be trying to trade a couple of the star pitchers (Dan Haren and Edwin Jackson) and other position players before the trade deadline, and before they are due to get huge raises next year.
