  • OT Movie article about former Central Illinoisan

Not sports related but this involves a good friend of mine who used to live in Central Illinois. Aaron Schneider formerly of Dunlap has received some nice praise from an LA Times Blogger/article about his next move "Get Low" which is due in theaters July 30. "Get Low" stars include Bill Murray, Robert Duvall, and Sissy Spacek. One person mentions Aaron's movie as a possible contender for the Best Picture Oscar! Aaron won an Oscar in 2003 for Best Short Film.

Los Angeles Times blogs that were published between 2006 and 2013.

A little update if anyone is interested. I just spoke to a member of Aaron's family. The release for Get Low will be July 27 at a LA red carpet premier. After that they are going with a limited release distribution with an August 27th date tentatively scheduled for Peoria.

I actually know several members of Aaron's family. Most of them were at the red carpet premiere last week in Hollywood...one of the family members even got to sit next to Jon Lovitz who attended the event.

Several reviews refer to it as a likely Oscar candidate, and Robert Duvall as a "lock." In fact, the link from Ben above lists the movie as "a soft lob down the middle for Oscar voters." The first movie he directed a few years ago won the Oscar for "Best Short Film".

He is already working ahead on future projects involving a few of the biggest players in the industry...my guess is that in 10 years, he will be recognized as a "famous Peorian" in the same manner as Jim Thome.

lol... Given that most of the people in the movie are over 60, I think my avatar gal would not be a good match for the movie!

I think if he wins a best director/best picture oscar his star may eclipse Jim Thome's.
