  • Top NBA Franchises of All Time

I am going to put this discussion on the General Sports, even tho it is basketball related..

ESPN has ranked all the NBA franchises, and of course he has the Lakers & Celtics at #1 and #2...
although I would certainly have placed the Celtics at #1 and Lakers at #2...as some of the Lakers' success is so long ago that it happened back in Minneapolis....

But here's the travesty...this jerk ranks the Bulls at #4, and places the Spurs at #3!!!!!!

He also ranks the Suns next ahead of the 76er's and and even has the Bucks & the Thunder ahead of the Pistons...
his system is bizarre and has even the New Jersey Nets ahead of the Wizards, even though the Wizards have quite a history back when they were the Bullets!

The Bullets even have one NBA Championship (1978 ) and seven divisional titles...

note one of his criteria is that wins count as a single point apiece (he even notes that this is the source of 82% of all the points awarded!!).....
...but he awards four points for an entire playoff series won.........
think about that...even the worst team in the NBA will still win 20 games, so that's the same credit as 5 playoff series won...
I think he's giving way, way too much credit just for winning games against bad opponents like the ABA had (like the worthless San Diego Sails) back when almost all their franchises flopped and failed.

Bulls have won six titles, Spurs 4
Bulls have won 3 in a row TWICE, Spurs never have
Bulls play in a far, far tougher division and in the last 20 years have won more than 60 games FOUR times, Spurs have done it only twice.
Bulls have won over 65 games twice...Spurs have never done it
Bulls had the all time best player...
Bulls finished 1st in 6 out of an 8-year span
Even back in their infancy Bulls were better...as the Bulls won more than 50 games 4 times in their first 8 years, Spurs did it twice
And get this...The Spurs took until 1990 before they averaged a half million two years in a row..the Bulls were doing it in 1976-1978..
and lastly....The Bulls, with their greats such as Bob Love, Chet the Jet, Jerry Sloan, Tom Boerwinkle then Norm Van Lier, Artis Gilmore, then Jordan, Pippen, etc...were part of what saved the NBA from extinction...
Despite all the credit being given to Bird & Magic, some has to go to the Bulls' greats, too...
Most people in the USA couldn't even name for you more than 3 Spurs besides Gervin, Robinson, and Duncan (and maybe Phegley!).

Well, ESPN have their own ranking criteria. They have clearly said that Lakers are so far out in front of everybody else. They also believe that their start could crush any team even if it is Celtics. So, here they make their point and do the rest.
