Their strikers and midfielders are fantastic but finesse players. If you play them physical it can disrupt their game a bit especially with Torres up front - course even then you still have to make it past Puyol/Pique/Ramos and then there is Casillas.... which is a problem.
Actually I was being quite serious. Spain is a great team, but if there is one African nation that could really play with them, its the Ivory Coast. Spain and Ivory Coast play a similar style upbeat attacking game and Ivory Coast has some great players who aren't being given credit. (Kalou, Eboue, the Toure brothers). And we have all seen that Spain's team can be stopped (Confederation Cup, anybody?). Czech is exactly right, you play physical against Spain and they crumble. So as I said, I think the Ivory Coast has a great chance if they play Spain.

RSA (South Africa) just completed the World Cup's first match and almost upset Mexico...
Mexico came back and scored late to salvage a 1-1 tie...
Mexico is ranked #17 in the world by FIFA, South Africa is #83...

It was a great game, but I feel like there was a little hometown advantage given by the refs. I personally just wanted to see a great game, but I feel like Mexico was cheated out of a couple fouls and I thought a bad offside or two was called.

I follow the USA regardless of the event.....only reason I watch World Cup...the soccer has nothing to do with it for me....It could be a shoe tying competition..if the USA is in the field...I'll watch.

this is the definition of soccer now, the play is so fast that it is guaranteed a few calls will be missed and the ball and player are flying simultaneously -- the day will come when they'll finally figure out a better way...

Yeah i agree. Spain is a strong favorite, and I wouldn't put the house on Ivory Coast, but they can hurt you. I get the chance to watch a lot of Futbol, and there are only a few players this year that have been capable of playing at a level at times during the season where they are just simply unstoppable - Rooney, Messi, and Drogba. On days when Drogba wants to play at his highest level (which isn't necessarily all the time) he is as good or better than anyone in the world. Throw that in there with Yaya, Kolo, Kalou, etc. and you are definitely right - they could be something amazing.

I agree and I also thought France got a few iffy calls go their way. The red card on the player from Uruguay was deserving. He came in late and high. I hope the reffs call all those that way.

Come on Portugal? They barely qualified. I would not bet any money on them right now.

BTW...They are showing the USA game all over town in SF. They are even opening up the ball park and showing it on the big screen for free.

as I stressed...IF they come to play....there is a reason why they are ranked third in the world.

some people consider the low scores exciting...but thus far in the first four contests, a total of only 5 goals have been scored

                          South Africa 1 - Mexico 1
                          Uruguay 0 - France 0
                          S. Korea 2 - Greece 0
                          Argentina 1 - Nigeria 0

The fact that Argentina and Nigeria ended at 1-0 was surprising. Nigeria has 3 or 4 legit scoring chances. Argentina has 10+, Messi had 6 or 7 alone. Fun game though.

I don't watch much soccer AT ALL, but I believe I could have prevented that goal!
