That's the thing...he refused to tell anyone...ANYONE...what the call was. That guy was just plain caught like a deer in headlights and had no idea why he blew his whistle....the replay showed almost EVERY SINGLE U.S. player being held or completely hugged in the box...not only was it a goal it was deserving of a pk also. Absolutely pathetic.

For the people that find soccer boring then you should've watched the 2nd half of this game...that is what makes soccer fun and exciting and why other countries love it. I don't blame you for not watching other teams...it's hard to get excited about them...but this was a thriller but still so disappointing. Ugh I seriously don't know if I would have been able to restrain myself from trying to strangle the ref if I was on the field. You don't take a goal away in the world cup without an explanation.....WORST. REF. EVER.

pathetic isn't even close to an accurate description of that crooked ref from Mali...
maybe incompetent, and maybe ignorant, but I am convinced he is corrupt and is an underwear-bomber & Time Square bomber-type mentality who is doing his own frikkin thing to try to hurt the US.
I hope he never refs another game in all of history and that his name...
      Koman Coulibaly...
lives in infamy along with the ignoramuses who blew the 1972 Munich Olympics...

He had it out for us the whole game. The yellow card to Findlay in the first half was ridiculous awful. The ball hit him the face and his hands are at this sides, and the ref gives him a yellow for a hand ball, which doesnt even begin to make sense. Then Altidore is on a break and gets yanked down from behind and the player only gets a Yellow. In many cases, that is a straight red. And I don't even want to mention that offsides, that was just absolutely awful. The worst part is in the replay he clearly is standing about 5 feet from Edu as he starts the run. The only thing that does surprise me is that he didn't just go ahead and give Dempsey a red at the start of the game for the Elbow.

England & Algeria just played to a 0-0 tie...

thus the group looks like this with one game left to play...

              Slovenia 4 pts
              USA..... 2 pts
              England 2 pts
              Algeria.. 1 pt

If the US can beat Algeria next Wednesday, then we can still advance..

With the U.S. open going on I will not be watching 0-0 games of one of the few sports I have no interest in.

If the USA wins they will advance.

Here is a quick breakdown of scenarios that put the USA through.

                  1. USA wins (if they win, no other scenario with the other game can knock them out due to the point structure.)
                  2. USA ties and England loses ( Slovenia would have 7 pts, USA would have 3, England and Algeria would both have 2)
                  3. USA ties and England ties and the USA retains the lead in Goals Scored (The first tiebreak is goal differential, but since both teams have two ties and if both teams tied again the Goal Differential would remain at 0 both teams. However, USA would advance currently because they have 3 goals compared to England's 1.)

In scenarios 2 and 3, USA would be the 2nd place finisher in Group C and would play the winner of Group D.

However, Scenario 1 is more complicated. Here are the placing scenarios.
First place plays Group D runner-up in the knockout stage and Second place plays Group D winner
                  1. USA wins and England wins (Both teams are through to the knockout round and will depend on who beat their opponent by more i.e. US beats Algeria by 2 and England beats Slovenia by 1, USA would place first.)
                  2. USA wins and Slovenia wins (Slovenia (7 points) places first and the USA (5 points) finishes second due to points)

Sorry for the long detailed report, just trying to help our less savvy-football fans

Then don't read this thread if you're just going to troll it.

I don't care who you are that 2nd half with USA was exciting and was the best half of soccer I've seen yet from any team. If the USA played with that intensity and heart every half we have some fire power and could beat anyone. You could FEEL that they were going to tie it before the half even started (at least I could) and even more so after Donovan scored...you just knew it was coming. Reminded me a lot like the Bradley-Maryland game after BU got the first goal with less than 3 minutes left...just knew another was coming. Yes I was there! And I'm glad I was.

USA defense needs to man up...I swear I think when I was in shape in high school I could've played D for this team...just awful at times.

It's even more irritating now that England and Algeria tied. With that result, the US would have only needed a tie against Algeria to advance. Sure, they can still advance with a tie if a couple things happen, but needing 3 points in 1 game is always tough.

Also, from the looks of it, I think Algeria could give the US some trouble. They had a lot of quick guys in the midfield with good moves on the ball. The mids have to really step up on Wednesday if the US is going to advance. I hope Bradley starts Dempsey up top with Altidore and puts Edu as the other center mid. Stick with the lineup that's working.

Pretty much agree with you. I also could see Buddle starting.

I also signed up on FIFA's web-site where their comment section moderators look more like complete tools of anti-freedom of speech. The USA MNST got ROBBED big time. How about Germany? Where does FIFA get these refs. They have nothing on our Valley refs.

I'm watching the games on Univision. The coverage is a lot more entertaining. I'm sure B4L would appreciate the before and after coverage.

I think it would be best to start feilhaber instead of edu, because he looked much more confident on the ball and really got involved during the second half. But i also though Jose Torres played well, and ricardo clark played well in the first match. So i think the US has a lot of options in midfield.

Thanks for the tip SFP.... I'll have to watch Univision to get the full "flavor" of the games.

How many of you guys are going to watch the USA game on Wednesday. I hope the high energy the team showed in the 2nd 1/2 of Slovania game starts from the first whistle. The one area that the USA team excels over any team in the WC is the conditioning. I predict a 2-0 USA win over Algeria and England over Slovania 1-0.
