  • Duke/Lacrosse

Duke Lacrosse will forever be linked with the image of scandal/rape/legal injustice...
but it a bit of sweet vindication for a lacrosse program that was almost totally and permanently dissolved just four years ago...
the Duke men's lacrosse team has WON the 2010 NCAA National Championship
..their first national lacrosse championship ever, scoring the winning goal 5 seconds into sudden death overtime...

I have a good friend who has a son on the Duke team. I do hope Bradley adds lacosse within the next year or two.

I only caught the very end of the game and overtime but man what a good game and a ridiculous finish. Never thought Duke would win it that quickly into overtime.

Do you think Lacrosse could be added due to Dr. Cross's Ivy League past?

I would be absolutely shocked if anyone seriously would consider adding an expensive, revenue guzzling sport like Lacrosse - especially in the midwest where ticket buying lacrosse fans are scarcer than synchronized swimming fans

I'll try out for the first ever team at BU!

what makes it cost so much?

you have a small field and some equipment

it would be the lack of fans mainly, that would make it expensive...plus the distance to travel to find programs to play.....
But the equipment and the fact that we don't have a field would play some part as well.
Like I said - in an unprecedented era of programs being cancelled due to budgetary problems, I would be shocked if we start up a program that is a sure money loser...same goes for any idea of Bradley starting up a D-I ice hockey program.

                Here's a couple trivia questions...

How many of the 13 D-I schools in Illinois field a Lacrosse team??
How many of the D-I programs even in contiguous states have Lacrosse?

Answer -- none and one...only 60 D-I Lacrosse programs exist...virtually all of them way out on the east coast..
The only ones that are even within a bus drive are Notre Dame & Ohio State, and both would kill us...
There's not even a D-II Lacrosse program any closer to us than Lake Erie College in northeastern Ohio.

BTW -- Lacrosse gear is by no means cheap...check it out...
by the time you buy gloves, pads, helmet, mask, sticks, and all the other protective gear needed to avoid serious injury, etc....each player would cost between $2000 - $4000 to equip...
