I don't think it's because of inadequate groundskeeping, but because someone wants to make it tougher than it should be. I like all the greens in the PPD. Nothing like Arizona greens, but don't expect them to be. Newman is a little too tough for me and Kellogg is my favorite. I also play Madison once a week and my favorite watering hole, the Elks, is right next door.

If I were on a grounds crew I would love to make it as hard as hell. Putting pins where they don't belong.

I do occasionally play Newman from the blues...when I am driving well....only 1,2,10 have noticeable differences....but I would rate number 10 at newman from the tips the hardest par 4 in the city by far. I think it rivals number 2 at Coyote.

Have never played Newman, but if #10 there rivals #2 at Coyote, it must be a b***h! What makes it so tough?

Haven't been out much...

Donovan is my home course and in great shape....77 a couple weeks ago w/ 3 birdies
Weaver...played in a scramble last Sunday..

No one has mentioned Pine Lakes....I like that course as well...need to hit Coyote too...soon...

IMO, Newman and Kellogg are considered the "signature" courses of the PPD. The majority of golfers aren't like you and capable of playing the blue tees, even though many who play the blue tees should be playing the whites and many who play the whites should be playing the senior tees. IMO there is no reason for the rough to be so bad at Donovan. Every course doesn't have to be made "tough" for the average golfer.

Chico I agree with you on Madison being my favorite also and for the same reason . The Elks next door. If you want a challange, its hard to beat Coyote Creek and its a great price for Seniors and after 2PM. It also has the nicest bar in town as does Weaver.

I still don't think they are trying to make it hard....unless they were for this 72 hole tournament.

Haven't been to Coyote is a few years. Our out of town traveling group of old timers has dwiddled, so we mainly just stay in town and use our passes. Working on making a trip out there though.

Come out there anytime but I work there on Mondays and for $29.00 for Seniors its hard to beat the price for the quality of the course.

Played there Thursday before the rain. Fairways were in great shape, but as usual at Donovan for some reason, the rough was ridiculous. They can have some interesting pin placements on several holes.

Kellogg is the best PPD golf course , they just seem to take better care of it , only 1 problem is they need to put real sand in the bunkers and more of it.
Donovan seems more and more like a wilderness and is not maintained as far as cutting the grass .

yeah newman might actually be real sand....rather than fine dirt.
