  • Joe, Lou, or Bob?

Who do you think would be the best choice to be the Cubs next manager? I know who the local favorite is, but all three are very qualified candidates.

It sounds to me like it will be Joe G. I think he would do the best job. I think Lou is too laid back since he retired.

I tend to agree. My top choices would be Joe or Bob. I will be more than happy with either choice. Rumor has it that Bob is the favorite to take the Giants job, so that leave Joe and Lou. I'll take Joe.

Look for something to happen with Bob............there seems to be a push to get Steve Stone back on the tube!

The Cubs won't force Bob out or anything, but he has made it clear he's interested in managing again. He's watched the Cubs from a bird's eye view for the last 2 years, so he has a great grasp of what's going wrong with them. He also has strong ties to the San Francisco organization, and is rumored to be the frontrunner there. A 3rd scenario is that he takes the recently departed (to Cincinnati) Thom Brennaman's spot in the booth in Arizona (Bob's their former skipper, and his offseason home is Phoenix), so all signs point to Bob leaving the Cubs booth in one way or the other. Word on the street is that it's about a 90% certainty that Steve Stone will be making his 3rd go-around with the Cubs TV crew next season. Bob has done a great job IMO, but I can't wait for Stoney to return.

The available manager pool is about to get a little smaller.
Looks like Joe Torre will soon be fired and it is reported that Lou Pinella is Steibrenner's choice to be the next Yankees manager.
Yankees manager Joe Torre is expected to be fired and replaced by Lou Piniella, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

I think that solidifes Joe Girardi as the next Cubs manager.

Lou Piniella will be named manager of the Chicago Cubs Monday or Tuesday. This is the best move the Cubs have made in a LONG, LONG time.

Noon press conference today to announce Lou Piniella as the new manager of the Chicago Cubs. The contract is around 3 years, $10 million with a club option for the 4th year.

Larry Rothschild will be retained by Piniella as the pitching coach. He was Piniella's bullpen coach when Piniella guided the 1990 Cincinnati Reds to a World Series championship.
