  • Bears re-acquire Chris Harris, ditch Gabriel

Bears send OLB Jamar Williams to the Panthers for SS Chris Harris. Director of College Scouting Greg Gabriel was fired today as well. Good move by the Bears in getting Harris back.

    WOW...didn't see this coming..but I like it!

Seems like a good deal for the Bears. Jamar Williams would not have played much, especially if Pisa Tinaisamoa recovers well.
I really liked Harris when he was with the Bears originally. He is one of the harder hitting safeties in the league. He has been a regular starter for the Panthers, and the Bears were able to acquire him for a seldom-used backup in Jamar Williams.
      ESPN puts it this way-
Bears correct a big mistake with Harris

I didn't like it when we got rid of Harris, I believe Daniel Manning was suppose to be a great safety at the time is why? It was a terrible move. Daniel Manning is a good kick returner, not a great safety.

Glad to see we got him back for a decent price, it always seems like he is making a big hit whenever I see him. Our Defensive back outlook is starting to get a little better gradually. I still think we could use another corner though.

Nice move. Seems to me like the Bears just locked up strong safety for at least a couple of years. Question is, who'll play the other spot? They've got a lot of guys on the roster nominally listed at safety, but generally the commentary indicates they're all better suited for strong safety. There's always a rumor that Peanut Tillman could make the move over to the FS spot... Wonder if that could be in the cards.

I think he would be perfectly suited to play FS, only problem is he is the best corner on the roster at the moment. I've never seen anyone cause as many fumbles as Peanut does year in & year out. Even when the opposition knows that's his thing, they still put it on the carpet.

Yeah true that, romar. I agree too, it's not like the roster's just brimming over with CBs. I think Bowman's okay. And for all his faults, I think Manning isn't so bad as a nickleback.

Well they drafted Major Wright who is the heir apparent, I believe. Who he is the heir apparent to is basically up in the clouds. I think that they can "get by" with Manning but I'm not sure that he turned out to be what they expected.

                  The beat goes on....

Bears trade Kevin Payne for 2011 draft pick from the Rams...
