You know that almost no coach would do that? and it's generally considered an *****ic move to throw a starter in relief this early in the season right? Why screw up the rotation for 1 game? It's a marathon man, we're not even 10% done with the season.

I don't have a problem with leaving the starting rotation alone, especially considering the fact the Cards play 34 of the next 36 days.

I do, however, have a problem with having Ludwick attempt to steal 2nd with Albert batting and no outs. That was not a very smart move and it turned out to cost them the game.

If you watched carefully, it was clearly a hit and run. Pujols attempted to make contact at a pitch well out of the zone that he had laid off at nearly every other at bat he took.

apparently the other opinion from Baseball Today on ESPN radio is LaRussa should have pitched a starter in this game.

They asked Charlie Manuel from Philly what position player he would have pitched and he laughed saying "what? I would have thrown a starter"

These guys think most managers would have thrown a starter.

They said if Manuel would have done what Tony did he would have been criticized but since it was LaRussa people accept it.

So maybe there is still questions on why Lohse couldn't pitch 2 innings in the early part of the season when no one's arm is at risk????

Wouldn't be much of an issue had he not called for a hit-and-run with Ludwick on 1st and Albert batting with nobody out. That's the decision that should be questioned.

but I love just the HR without the &. I'd take my chance with Albert Pujols any day. He can make any manager look like Einstein.

So your telling me you would throw a starter in a meaningless game this early in the season? that is foolish and completely stupid. In a September division game, hell yes throw a starter, but less than 15 games in? Give me a break.

That's what I mean......why take the bat out of his hand if something doesn't work out or if Ludwick ends up on 2nd and Albert is still batting with 1st base empty, they're putting him on in that situation. Turns out, if Ludwick was still on 1st base, the Cards would've won the game.

Man I wish we had Charlie Manuel as our manager. Stupid la russa not pitching a starter coming off an injury plagued season 10 games into the year. Bring in pinella!

So when do games start to matter?

All I am saying is that the general consensus on ESPN Radio Baseball Today agrees with me!

Everyone has voiced their opinion about how I am so wrong.....I am not the only one with this opinion.

What harm would it have done?

I think Lohse would gladly pitch to win the game considering his teammates had been working their asses off for 6 hours. I am sure he could recover from 30 pitches. Especially because it is early in the season.

OBV. I would rather have La Russa than any other manager in the game....but Manuel is doing just fine. He is not, right now, comparable to Pinella.

When the cardinals lose homefield advantage in the NLDS (they will make the playoffs ) by one game....
