It's being reported from various news sources and twitter accounts that the Bears and Julius Peppers have reached a 6 year deal worth approximately 12-14 million per year.

      Edit

Now confirmed, 6-year, $72 million.... first 3 years guaranteed.
This is just the tip of the iceberg...

Peppers DID NOT live up to the huge expectations at Carolina. I think he will for the Bears. Outstanding signing!!

Awesome day for the Bears! I would have liked Kampman, but how can you go wrong with either him or Peppers? We need a Receiver, to fix up the Oline, and get a Defensive back.....am I getting too greedy for one offseason?

Nice to see Chicago teams like the Bulls and Bears planning on spending money, that coupled with BU looking good for next year leaves my sports teams looking in good shape for next year.

Now if only the Cubs would do something exciting, I think I am getting too greedy there unfortunately lol.

In other Free Agency news, the Redskins are looking at signing free agent QB Rex Grossman! I am still rooting for the guy to succeed, playing under Shanahan could be his big break.

I like Peppers but the Bears need a whole lot more then a DE. Knowing management I'm only hoping that they do not shut down the cash register after signing him. We need some depth at the offensive line and a few WRs.

Hmm, he's definitely an upgrade, but there's no way that I'd give Peppers that much money. He's too inconsistent for me. Taylor is a nice get. They need to get one of the safeties, trade Olson, and have a good draft now.

Oh but Pinella a couple of weeks ago on WGN-TV was excited that his new coaches and the lack of Milton Bradley have helped bring some much needed chemistry to the Cubs! So who knows, maybe addition by subtraction?

Great day for the Bears though, and nice to see what the management will do when they are under a "short leash".

Ya I saw that interview too , We'll see I guess, but our whole pitching staff from starters to relievers scares me, and our lineup isn't very well constructed either with no real lead off man. Of Course maybe someone like Brandon Webb at the deadline could make me feel better if he gets healthy.

Yep the short leash usually motivated people. Paxson will be under the same short leash this offseason, because after playing for this free agent class for years he better get someone.

Bears still have a ways to go, but it is certainly a good start, although Peppers better perform because the contract is guaranteed through 3 years.
