As a former hs football coach and current youth fb coach IMO this is a relationship deal between Clarkson and Kiffin. Obviously it is in the best interest of Kiffin to solidify his relationship with Clarkson and for Clarkson, this is a national pub deal. I'm sure the kid is really good and will find his way to USC. But this is about publicity.
Obviously Clarkson has built his reputation as one of top "high dollar instructors/power brokers" of top California QB's over the years. Now he is expanding the "Steve Clarkson Dream Maker" nationwide. While he instructs some QB's he is trying to make a lot of money doing traveling one or two day "exposure" type events for kids and their parents to come to.
Teaching QB fundamentals is not rocket science, but reputation and entrepenurial spirit allows you do some great things.Get Well Massive Mike! "Once a Brave always a Brave!"

This whole offering or even allowing the contact with anyone remotely close to a grade schooler or a young high student is obscene.
It should stop, but it wont. My thought is if this kid gives a verbal from an offer then even if he never pans out or changes his mind you lose the use of that scholorship for 4 years begining in the year the person was to have attended your school.
Would Kiffin have offered a scholorship to anyone in grade school if there was a penalty of losing the offered scholorship.
Way to many things can and do happen between 7th grade and Freshman year of college.

No Kiffin couldn't have offered if there was a risk to lose the scholarship. There is little risk to anyone here, but A LOT of pub gained for both.
This is about Kiffin keeping USC at the top of the list for Clarkson's top students now that his is the head coach. It is also about Clarkson showing the country that his high dollar services are not exclusive to California QB's, as the kid is from Delaware.
How may hits did steveclarksondreammaker.com take when all went to see this kid on youtube?Get Well Massive Mike! "Once a Brave always a Brave!"

Hey - it worked for Bruce Weber...
it's part of job security - something the USC guys are now planning for...
if you recruit the top kids that are 6-8 years away from their peak, then there will always be the argument that we can't fire the guy when he has such a top recruiting class coming down the road...
like I said, it helped Bruce Weber weather all the storms of the past several seasons, since he had Jereme Richmond coming in way down the road...

This kid has not actually accepted a scholarship to attend USC, as you can not officially accept a scholarship until signing day. He is just "verbally committed", which doesn't necessarily mean a lot these days. How many players have verbally committed to Bradley i the last 4 years who actually ended up playing for other teams? I'd put it at about a 25% chance this kid actually signs a LOI with USC. A lot can change in that time.
Kiffin should worry more about trying to improve his 12-21 career record as a head coach than recruiting 7th graders.People need to recognize there is a huge difference between playing hard, and playing well...

My GF who is not even a sports fan (my problem I know) said, "This is so ridiculous how do they even allow this to happen?""Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
