Didn't see it on here yet. But I thought it was newsworthy. However, it's a minor league deal.

I had the privlidge of meeting Brian a few weeks ago... I asked him and his wife to come speak at our Young Life high school ministry in Washington and they were more than happy to give up their night to come talk to a group of high school kids. He is incredibly friendly and cool. He represents the Braves well. I wish him the best of luck in the future.____________________

First - there's not many 41-year old relievers in the majors....so just being there at this age is pretty remarkable and shows Brian has some unique value to someone...
Shouse had other offers, but chose the Red Sox mainly because of 2 things - they are and will be a contender and have as big of a need for lefties in the bullpen as anyone.....and they have great & loyal fans...and their fans aren't like the Yank or other fans that tend to unload on their own guys.
OK - then how come some fans keep saying things like -
players don't read the message boards
players don't care what the fans say
players are mature enough to handle criticism
nothing ever said on a message board would ever lose a team a player or a recruit, etc...
I'm telling you, those are insane ideas, and they do hurt the team, and I have it first hand that a guy with multiple contract options places the fans' behavior at the top of the list of where he'd sign ahead of the $$ amount offered!!!
BTW - the report that Shouse signed a "minor league contract" was a plan partly for the purpose of saving the BoSox a bundle...as now, having not signed a guaranteed MLB contract, the Rays are NOT due anything in compensation...but do look for Shouse, if he's healthy, to make the parent roster, or even if he doesn't he's still got options...

Update on Brian Shouse...
Brian is in spring training with the Boston Red Sox...along with 32 other pitchers!!
Note that they often split their squads and play additional games, so everyone gets some opportunity...they have played a total of 22 games (11-11)
BUT - the stats that stand out in all the pitchers in spring training are Brians!!
Brian has already appeared NINE times (only one other pitcher has 8 appearances and only two others have more than 6).
In those nine appearances, he is 1-0, 1.08 ERA (best for any pitcher over 3 appearances), and has gicven up only 1 earned run and has 5 K's to only one walk.
Keep up the great work Brian!!

he and his agent are in the process...but it's a stumper why Boston released Brian - he was the BEST lefty reliever by far in their spring training...
But, they make their decisions on a number of bases, including salaries, needs, and concerns about health or injury...
