  • More on Reggie Bush's Extra Benefits violations

Let's see how aggressive the NCAA pursues this obvious violation of the Extra Benefits rule.

I stand by my prediction that the NCAA will do absolutely nothing.

And this also reminds me that there were published reports of JR Giddens also getting upwards of $5,000 and maybe even $10,000 from the same guy who gave cash to Darnell Jackson at Kansas, and of course the NCAA has never investigated that either.

The Sun Times is reporting the amount of extra benefits Bush and his family got are in excess of $100,000, and may actually be in the millions.

If this info is available to yahoo reporters, surely the NCAA knows about it. They will act only if the outcry is compelling enough, and it's getting to that level.

When asked about the payments to Bush, the agents at first denied there were any improper payments.
Then when shown proof positive that there were such payments, one of the agents dismissed it as "that money has been paid back".
One of the agents, just coincidentally, is a convicted felon, having been convicted of mail fraud in his dealings with the NFL in the past.

The nation's newswires a ablaze with more reports of evidence that Reggie Bush and USC cheated, and massive improper/illegal benefits were given to USC football star Reggie Bush while he was at school and under scholarship.

As I have said before, since it's USC and BIG MONEY that comes from BCS football, the NCAA will act stone deaf until the pressure to investigate rises to tsunami level, and it's getting there.

Maybe now the NCAA will take a little peek. Despite massive evidence already uncovered, over nearly a year and a half, they still haven't even placed a phone call.

When the hint of an impropriety had occurred at Bradley, the had their full force on the campus within a week, scrutinizing every file until they found something.

Is there anyone else besides me who sees the stupendous hypocrisy and inequity here?

I say BCS or not, be fair and nail all the rule-breakers equally!!!!!

OK, the demands for the NCAA to get involved are now undeniable, the very guy
who gave nearly $280,000 to Reggie Bush while he was in school at USC, is going to the NCAA with his info, since the guy wants his $$ repaid. Wonder if the NCAA would have even bothered to listen if the guy wasn't filing lawsuits, showing all the blatant smoking gun evidence, and demanding the NCAA be involved?
Even the writers of this series of Yahoo articles have easily been able to secure overwhelming, ****************ing evidence, so why is the NCAA dragging their feet?
It's been two years and still they don't seem to care other than cover their butts so they don't look so crooked by ignoring all this evidence!

Even more proof the NCAA will have to look into the Reggie Bush scandal
instead of looking the other way when BCS superstars break the rules.

Was this an individual or the institution doing something wrong? I never like it when a player does something improper that the school never knew about and then the school and even worse the kids remaining have to pay for it.

I feel bad for Oklahoma regarding Sampson but he was part of the institution so they should pay just like IU should now suffer for his transgression.

Some breaking news on the Reggie Bush front....plus I just wanted to get the Aaron Schock thread off the top of the board...

Reggie and his handlers have fired their agent (Mike Ornstein) that has gotten Reggie tens of millions of dollars in contracts and endorsements, and who has made Reggie and all his entourage into multi, multi-millionaires.
This is not the agent who helped Reggie, while still in college at USC, by giving Reggie over $100,000 in cash and benefits such as free use of luxury apartments, etc. But a major, major legal battle is now likely to ensue between the Reggie Bush camp and the two agent groups as to getting back the benefits Reggie took in college and other issues.
This could of course get ugly, and there is not just enough evidence of NCAA violations, there is overwhelming evidence of MASSIVE NCAA violations through impermissable benefits given to Reggie by the very agent who was then to first represent Reggie when he got out of college.
Also the attorneys are openly admitting to the massive gifts and benefits that were given, but yet the NCAA still seems quite disinterested (already two years since all the revelations broke about the extra benefits), and still seems quite reluctant to view this overwhelming and massive amount of violations as anything more than a minor complaint..........
Some reports say that USC has yet to even be contacted regarding the matter...as if they've already been told they're fully off the hook!

Am I the only one who sees quite a contrast here with the few bucks Patrick O'Bryant was charged with inadvertently being overpaid, and the almost immediate NCAA swooping in onto campus to nail BU and penalize O'Bryant?
When it was Bradley, the NCAA demanded immediate and full revelation (which was provided fully) by BU and Star Trucking, and laid down penalties so fast that it caused heads to spin, so that POB couldn't even start the season only a couple months after his last Star paycheck!!!
So far with Reggie Bush it's been over two years since the first obvious revelation of him living free in a luxury home that was being paid for by his agent.
Halfway through his second season in the NFL, Reggie Bush already ranks among the most recognizable and profitable faces in the league.

The Heisman winner's family moved out of a house amid USC's request for a Pac-10 investigation.

Follow the trail of benefits Reggie Bush and his family appear to have received – back to October 2004.

Meet the people involved in Yahoo! Sports' investigation of Reggie Bush and his dealings with prospective agents while at USC.

FOUR years and counting.....but the NCAA still doesn't seem to care, even though the evidence is becoming overwhelming
that while starring for USC, running back Reggie Bush was paid hundreds of thousands of bucks in improper benefits.
Hmmm... wonder how fast the NCAA would swoop in if it was BU and if it was a few hundred inadvertent bucks from a
summer job he really did have?

Oh well, maybe the disgruntled businessman who wants some of his money back from Reggie will help get the facts out in the open.
Now he's suing Reggie and calling some of the big names to testify...

SAN DIEGO -- USC Coach Pete Carroll and one of his assistants could be summoned into the courtroom as part of the civil lawsuit involving Reggie Bush, an attorney in the case said Friday.

Remember....BU was NOT INVOLVED with the extra pay POB got, and yet this story somehow suggests that if USC can
distance itself and say they really didn't know anything about Reggie Bush living in a luxury home and getting $300,000
in cash and gifts, then just maybe the NCAA won't bother checking.

Here's the line of the century.......
"The secret in football is to win first and ask questions later."

but that also applies to the BCS-type guys winning in every sport...

also, note one line at the end of the final link that says the guy who gave Reggie Bush free use of his luxury home for
his college days, and who therefore also gave Bush tens of thousands of improper benefits, has reached a settlement
and has dropped his part of the suit.

I predicted years ago that the NCAA wouldn't bother with this case since USC makes so much $$ for college football and the NCAA.
But if the outcry is loud enough and the evidence is all over the front pages, then they will have no choice -
as was the case when numerous large bills fell out of UPS packages headed for one of the University of Kentucky recruits a number of years ago.
Again....if it is Bradley, all the NCAA needs is a sliver of suspicion and evidence.
If it is USC or Kentucky, the evidence has to be overwhelming before they are embarrassed into action!!

Bush's family in principle agrees that they received 300K and are willing to repay, so exactly at what point does the NCAA make a decision regarding USC and Bush... the dragging of the feet and the posturing by the NCAA is really horrible.

A court motion shows that the Heisman winner's family agreed to financial pact with financier of New Era Sports & Entertainment.

wow, this is like admitting I took $300,000 from a bank and agreeing to pay it back, yet the law enforcement people still saying they don't have any evidence of any mis-doings!!

I wouldn't expect the NCAA to act against USC any time soon, but now they virtually HAVE to admit that Bush was given impermissible benefits, if he admits it himself and is paying it back!

Had POB played in any of those games he was docked (and he wasn't being payed for his athletic talent), BU would have had to forfeit them, so USC should likewise forfeit all the games Bush played as a professional.
