Only problem is Silva is making just as much the next two years and is a horrible pitcher. Great to see that guy finally gone though as he was also a HUGE clubhouse problem on top of not playing that well.

I honestly am not excited about this. We are paying pretty much the same amount for a bad pitcher who is a question mark because of injuries. I understand that Bradley may have done so much damage that his relationship with the fans and the organization could not be repaired, but the Cubs go and get his hitting coach from the Rangers and we get rid of the guy for basically nothing in return. If the Cardinals get Holliday back, prepare for another year of no postseason.

Well, with the extra $9mil that Seattle is sending us, that means that when all the money is evened out, Carlos Silva will essentially cost the Cubs $9mil a year, while Milton Bradley will essentially cost the Mariners $13.5mil a year. So we are saving a bit of money.

On the other hand, chances are that Carlos Silva will be cut in Spring Training, so he will basically be paid around $25mil from both the Cubs and Mariners to NOT pitch for two years. I wish someone paid me a fraction of that to not play baseball.

Wow the Cubs got nothing in return and still need to spend some $$$. It looks like management is looking to save $$$ and not win. I'd have to think that if the Cubs were looking to win they could have traded MB for some prospects and eaten a few $$$s but with this trade it smells of pure cheapness. Seattle is a good place for MB because the press rarely heads out that far west and its a fairly mellow city.

There was no way anyone was going to take Milton Bradley for prospects without us eating most, if not all of his contract. We're lucky to get what we did, which isn't much, but hopefully it frees up enough money this year to sign Matt Capps or Marlon Byrd, which I would take over prospects.

I actually think Silva could be a valuable middle relief guy for the Cubs next year, and maybe a starter. He still has good stuff, but mysteriously couldn't get many people out the last couple seasons since going to Seattle. He is Venezuelan, and about the same age as Carlos Zambrano (also Venezuelan), so I think it's likely they know each other well. Maybe his presence on the team could be a benefit to Big Z?

On the other side of this trade, what is the chance that Milton Bradley puts up an All-Star season next year at Seattle while the Cubs are hurting for a consistent hitting outfielder?

Considering Silva has declined since 2005 in every category, including having an abysmal 8.60 ERA last year, giving him around a 7.00 ERA for the last 2 years, I really don't think he's going to be a valuable asset. Not to mention the fact that he was pitching at Safeco, which may be the most pitcher-friendly ballpark behind Petco.

Very good news IMO......if bradley stayed on the Cubs roster by opening day I vowed to quit watching....its was a bad move to sign him from day one.....now go out and sign Byrd and Capps with the 13 or so million increase in ticket prices this season and give us some hope!

There's still one move to be made folks. The Cubs will acquire a Centerfielder before Spring Training, I'm sure. Lets hope it's not Scotty Pods. ugh. Problem is, that everyone wants the Cubs best prospects (Vitters and Castro) whom the Cubs are reluctant to give up. Anyway, a speedy centerfielder would allow the Cubs to move the incredibly mediocre Fukudome to Right which is his natural position.
