  • Cubs sign new hitting coach for 3 years- $2.4 million

The Chicago Cubs signed a new hitting coach, Rudy Jaramillo, to a reported 3-year, $2.4 million contract.
    http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/2777
Rudy Jaramillo was the hitting coach for the Texas Rangers since 1995, and is widely considered on of the top couple hitting coaches in MLB.
The Cubs started last year with Gerald Perry as their hitting coach, but he came under fire and was replaced in June when the Cubs, despite a massive payroll loaded with offensive stars, greatly underachieved. They promoted Von Joshua, who was their minor league hitting coach, but the Cubs offensive woes did not improve.

Both Alfonso Soriano and Milton Bradley thrived with Jaramillo as their hitting coach, but struggled last year with the Cubs.
Looks like Rudy Jaramillo will have to update the pictures on his website-

I hope this guy is as good as advertised....for that is a lot of $$$ for a hitting coach @ $800,000 a year....now if we could get a pitching coach!

Big Mike, I would be happy if the Cubs would aggressively sign some quality middle relief pitchers...and even a starter....

I thought the Cubs went bankrupt...Seriously, if he's successful it'll be the best 2.4 million the Cubs ever spent.

After a very disappointing season...this appears to be the first of several steps that the new owners will be implementing right away...expect a few more as soon as the deal is done. Anxiously waiting till next year

Take away the the cheating and you can see why he would be a good hitting instructor. He had a great compact swing that a lot of hitters could and should emulate. There are not to many hitters that could get the bat through the strike zone as quick as McGuire and a lot of that had to do with technique. The power is a whole other issue!
