There are a lot of bad stories in sports, but this is an incredible story that should make everyone feel good about sports.
Bonnie Richardson is an 18 year old girl who just graduated from a small Texas high school in Rochelle, TX, population 600. Her story has not gotten much publicity, mostly because she wanted privacy and has turned down offers for interviews by ABC's Good Morning America, the CBS News, and many others.
She was the only athlete from her high school who qualified for Track and Field events at the girl's Class A Texas State High School track meet. In fact, she was the only member of her girl's high school track and field on the team.
She won or finished high enough in every event she competed in (5 different events) that all by herself she earned her high school enough points that Rochelle HS won the team championship at the state meet.
And believe it or not, this is the second year in a row that she has done this. She also won the Class A team title a year ago as a junior, by herself! 2 years in a row!
And to show she's not just an athlete, she is a straight A student who was the valedictorian of her high school class. She earned a track scholarship to Texas A&M, a perrenial power in women's track and field. Her interests outside of competetive sports include hunting and fishing.
Here are a couple internet stories-
And Sports Illustrated has a long story about Bonnie in this week's issue. Caution, this is a very long article-
