Just what the Cubs needed, another light-hitting infielder. His career average is .260 with a career On-Base-Percentage of .295. That's absolutely awful. He has 11 total homers in 6 seasons, with an average of 30 RBI a season. Whoopie! He is known as a slick fielder. But the Cubs need pitching and offense. Is this the best they could do?

The Cubs released Tony Womack a few weeks ago. He was hitting .265 (higher than Izturis), his OBP was .342 (higher than Izturis has ever had in his career), and Womack was better in every offensive statistic. Womack's salary was only $2 million, and Izturis is grossly overpaid at $3.2 million (for a career .260 hitter!). The Cubs would have been better off leaving Ronny Cedeno at short and keeping Womack at 2nd. Better yet, just junk the entire team, hire people who know what they are doing, and start over.
