Here is just another anomaly of the BCS formula--

    Current BCS rankings--
Visit ESPN for the complete 2024 NCAAF season standings. Includes league, conference and division standings for regular season and playoffs.

Alabama is #1, Oklahoma is #2, Texas is #3, and Florida is #4.

Interestingly, Alabama (#1) plays at Florida (#4) on Saturday, so you would think Alabama must be favored, since the BCS tells us that they are the #1 team in the country.
But Alabama is a 10 point underdog to Florida!
Get the latest Alabama Odds, see their recent and upcoming schedule, matchups, injuries, stats, and team news.

Florida has been playing some amazing ball right now. Bama basically is #1 because they haven't lost yet. I'd take Florida in the game.

If being undefeated is worth more than just common sense, then why is Ball State out of the BCS consideration, and probably Boise State will be, too?

not that they don't deserve BCS consideration...but they haven't played that many tough teams to my knowledge (could be way off on that one).

But Texas (1 loss to Texas Tech), Oklahoma (lost to Texas). They've lost to some of the best teams...

i'm not agreeing w/ the decisions or anything but i see where they're coming from.

as for the florida alabama spread...
I heard Mike and Mike talking about this on the radio, and really got me thinking. Vegas wants as many bets on the game as possible. So their spread is a combination of who they think is the favorite...and also what is a reasonable "betting" scheme for everyone. Just somethign to consider that i never even thought of.

doesn't mean it's not going to be an amazing game to watch. I have started rooting for Florida because of Tim Tebow and his ability to win games

I think by having Ball ST play Boise ST, it's just a way for the powers that be to get rid of these two teams come bowl time. It's like they're saying, well nobody cares about either of these two teams, we'll just have them play each other with basically nothing at stake. That way, none of the BCS teams will have to play these low lifes.

That's just my take on it. In my opinion, College football is a joke anyway, and the BCS bowl series is the punchline.

The Ball State issue it a moot point now. In case anyone didn't hear already, Ball State lost to Buffalo last night 42-24.

I think a lot of people forget how the BCS actually works. It is NOT an NCAA championship. It is championship given by the BCS conferences and the media. It is different from the basketball tournament in that way. The BCS really is controlled by the the conferences that formed it, not the NCAA. This is why an undefeated team not from a BCS conference will never get that championship.

It's not that they forget how it works, it's that nobody other than the two at the top of the list cares. Every bowl except the championship bowl is meaningless.
