Here are my thoughts...I figured I would start a new thread so everyone can get a chance to chime in on ideas and what not...

That and I think everyone gets a little bored of going through 3 page posts that started yesterday morning and what not...

Anyways, feel free to comment back and give your own thoughts...maybe we can get some great ideas out there for someone

We have the players as far as I'm concerned....

Right now, the coaches are not making the right decisions and certainly not helping the progression of the players

    Examples:

    Theron Wilson playing the 4
    David Collins starting
Sam Maniscalco even playing w/ his injury
Sam M. and Eddren playing at the same time
Trying to play Will at the 5 when clearly he is a 4 or maybe even a 3
The ridiculous guard oriented motion offense when our guards aren't great outside shooters
poor coaching on man to man defense
    poor substitution patterns

BASICALLY----not putting our players in a beneficial position to compete and win games

I could go on and on, but really, we all know its there...we just don't have the players to run the Ruffin to Crouch type system...

And we certainly don't have the on the ball defenders like Ruff or Tauai or even Salley (at times) that can stop poor execution in half court man to man sets...

Some things that desperately need to be done:

    a) Insert Will Egolf at the 4; rotate him and Taylor Brown

    b) Place Theron at the 3 where he will be more confident and effective

    c) Have Darian and Eddren fight it out for point position because we should be sitting Sam til he is completely healthy...no sense in getting him further injured and runing his confidence in November

    d) Start Sam Singh...he's earned that much

    e) Go to a more traditional box or post offense and get the ball to the short baselines and inside more often, which would be much easier to do w/ Will in alongside Sam, David, or Anthony

    f) Either back off the on-ball pressure in the man to man or go to a 2-3 matchup zone...I apologize as I've figured out a 1-3-1 won't work w/ this team as we don't have a great point man to rotate....

    g) Either stop the pointless token backcourt press OR actually work to implement a legitimate trapping defense and extend it

Ok...so this may seem like a lot, but really it wouldn't be too hard to fix in a short time...

    e) is the only one that may not make sence since teams are playing zone on us. What we need is someone willing to take some mid-range jumpers and not have to go all the way to the hoop or just shoot the 3.

on another note I posted a thread earlier in the summer asking who was going to take MS's place in being a bit of the enforcer on D and got slammed. Now I'm seeing posts on how we need someone like him. I had an ugly feeling that this teams makeup besides SM did not have a the toughness needed to over come bad shooting slumps. DD may live up to a tough defender but we still do not have a big that will step up and enforce the middle. IMO

Thats why I like Will and Sam S. in there....If anyone saw the game yesterday, it may not have shown up in the stats but Will was very aggressive and all over the floor when he was in...extremely active...and Sam S. is always great at putting a body on someone...

Sam S. has known how to execute a proper screen since his first practice on campus...Collins STILL does not know how to execute one...most if not all of his screen attempts could be called illegal, and some have...

You were correct on your Salley assessment, and trust me, I was not one of the so called bashers out there...Matt brought an intensity and toughness and would just as soon kick your you know what then let you get the better of him...we need that from one of them...

And on your first comment...most players don't realize that a mid range shot is there until they get to the pros...only person I can remember of late that was good at it was Will Franklin...Sam M. could learn from that as he has been prone to going too far and charging...something he picked up from Ruff...one difference was that Ruff had better tools in quickness and shot control...but I will slightly disagree as if we had Sam S. and Will (two bigger players) inside, we would get more higher percentage shots and if we moved the ball more instead of all the dribbling around the perimeter, we would also get more open looks.
